glow in the dark mt dew

8 posts in this topic

This will be a neat science experiment http://www.maniacworld.com/How-To-Make-Glow-In-The-Dark-Mountain-Dew.html

Next time I'm out I'm going to pick up some mountian dew and try this. I want to see if it works with flat mt dew, how long it lasts, how bright it is & if other drinks do the same thing. Could be a cool source of temporary lighting both literally and figuratively if it goes well. Could be a really good thing during the summer if it works well. I'll post our results.

BUMMER!!! I tried it with sprite and it didn't work so I decided to tootle the chemistry behind it. I should've done that first. Turns out the guy added liquid from a glow stick so its not a cool experiment but a cool trick. http://chemistry.about.com/b/2008/03/03/glow-in-the-dark-mountain-dew-2.htm

I gotta get some more crank &/or shake flashlights. Our shake one quit working. We have one windup, but I think it got put in storage during the flood last summer and I don't have a clue where to find it. If the mt dew had worked, it would be pretty cheap and easy to store for those just in case times or to entertain the kids.

PS i meant google the chemistry. Gotta love auto correct. It also changed jeepers to beepers in another post.

Shake flashlights don't work very long in humid climates, Windy. Don't waste your money.

save batteries by using LED flashlights!

I have some that have 9, 15, and 18 LEDs for a very bright light and they are smaller too, seeing they are using AA or AAA batteries.

IF you try this with KIDS be very careful of the stuff in the glow stick.

Every one I every had said to NOT open them up as there are harmful stuff inside.

If I do it I'm going to fake it and make them think its real like the video so I can prove there something not right about the color of it. I never have been able to drink it because of the color.
