Annarchy
Early this morning, a little after 3am, a vacant house across the street caught fire. Skeery, scary. I'd got up earlier than normal, about 3:10am and went outside for a moment . I thought I heard someone walking in that area, but I did not see anyone walk past the house, so I came back in - feeling like it wasn't safe to be outside. I was sitting at the kitchen table when I heard someone talking in a loud voice in front of the house. I put on my robe and went out to see who had the nerve to be talking that loud in the middle of the night. I saw a cop car with its light on at the north end of the street, then, the flicker of the flames caught my attention... then the sirens. I saw bigger flames next to the house on the ground outside and smaller flames inside the window. By the time the fire department got there, the flames had engulfed the back room and were coming out the windows. It took the fire department 2 hours to put the fire completely out. Just the back part of the house was flaming as far as we could see. That's the 7th fire in our neighborhood during the holiday season. All the fires have happened to homes located on the corner. Scary! Makes me hyper alert. Spent the rest of the day doing paperwork. How did your day go? Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
What a way to start your day! And it sounds very eeery to say the least, to see so many fires so close to you. We've been hibernating all day, other than to let Abby-girl out to run and play in the snow to work off some energy. We've got about 3 inches and it's bitter cold. Mountain Man called pastor friend (he's been working on one of his flips) and they agreed it would feel much better to sit home with wives, sip some hot chocolate and eat a bowl of chili for lunch...so we did! Washer hose at mother's is apparently leaking (or something is) and leaving a mess on the laundry room floor. Son's keeping it sopped up with old bed linens and will have to do that for the time being. We just don't have the dollars right now to buy a new hose, just got through paying taxes on all three properties and we've never been so stinkin' broke since we married! Be glad when Little House is done, we're moved, and this house is sold. I'll take a bath on it, but that's ok. I've lived here for nearly 40 years and it's been paid for, for a long time so I consider I've lived rent-payment free for for at least 20 of those years. Little House is also paid for so we'll be reducing our expenses alot by selling this one...no taxes, no insurance, no utilities and no repairs! Finished up the rest of our black-eyed pea & bean soup and fixed a small batch of muffins to go with them. It's usually just easier for me to make muffins (mostly same ingredients) than to roll our & cut biscuits etc. Even making cornbread muffins is easier. Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Scary, indeed, Annarchy! Glad they got it out but we've also experienced a time when an arsonist was at work. How do you survive staying THAT vigilant? But ....please try! MtRider :darth duck: Quote Link to comment
lumabean
That's scary, Ann, I hope that this was the last in the area. That has to be scary especially with it being #7 Quote Link to comment
Annarchy
Then, this morning, before 6 am, we got to spend 6 hours in the ER. Yes, everything is fine. Quote Link to comment

Jeepers
Seven fires in one season doesn't sound like a coincident to me. Stay safe and ever vigilant! Quote Link to comment
Twilight
I hope it is not another fireman that has turned arsonist. Quote Link to comment
Annarchy
Jeeze............. Another building burned last night. This time it was the county's Voter Registration/Recorders office, an 1/2 mile from our house. I am appalled at our fire department. Their water hoses were spraying over the fire, missing it completely and the ladder truck was a block away and only spraying on the fire occasionally! No wonder all the buildings in our town burn to the ground. IMHO, the only building they managed to put out would have been better if they had let it crumble. Quote Link to comment
