Windy cold Friday

Recommended Posts

What a week ,

I didn't want to leave my nice warm bed and I've been sick this week. My car was very reluctant to start this morning so getting up and going to work was hard this morning,
When I got to work 6 people said " I thought you had today off" . No I have next Friday off but they made me think I had the wrong day.

My team leader did have the day off and one of the expecting mothers went home sick so things were not going well for us.
One of my co-workers was acting very strange today. By lunch time I knew he was stoned out of his mind.
Usually I mind my own business but he was affecting my job and his behavior was getting stranger so at lunch I talked to the other team leader in our department.
He told me that I was the second person to tell him about stoned guy today so together we went to our supervisor.
They sent him to do a drug test after lunch. No one was surprised.

Good news is that I have no where to go this cold windy weekend. We have plenty of food and kerosene and Monday is a non-production day so 3 DAY WEEKEND work 3 day next week and another 3 day weekend.

A windy day here too. Ran all our usual Friday errands & then headed for Little House and the little library there. They now have e-books that can be downloaded so I just returned the ones I'd read & downloaded one last night to my Kindle. Mountain Man likes to read some of the books that are just not available on e-book...anywhere :-( ...so he goes in & has them order them in from other big libraries in major cities. Works for us :-) He ran most of the remaining ceramic tile on one wall, and will cut in around the holes he cut in the wall, between studs, where he's going to build me two built-in shelves for smaller items. Will check weather tomorrow, we may take a day trip in my van, and then work Sunday at Little house. Also when coming back to town, we stopped at Menards. They were having their "bag" sale of 14% off of everything you could get in a paper grocery sack. He needed grouting sponges & a few other things. They also had Crest toothpaste for $1 a tube (same price as $Tree) so I stuffed a couple of boxes/tubes into his sack :-) Came home & had a cheap supper...cheeseburgers, chili & fritos :-) Cooks night off :-) Now he's listening to some of the videos on the Survival Summit webinares. I've enjoyed several but some I just can't "get my brain wrapped around". We don't have the kind of money that some of these guys are talking about doing. I thoroughly enjoyed Marjory Wildcraft though. I like her "strategic" location ideas, seems alot more feasible for people like us. She said that you could learn alot about the personality of a community by the businesses & churches etc., that thrive and the ones that don't. That's why we're relocating to Little House instead of selling it & moving to the homestead. We're switching 25,000+ population to 2,500- population. The local library is a real "gathering" point and they have all kinds of get-togethers there...quilting circles etc. They sell hand made soaps from people in the community, just a neat place. There aren't very many restaurants, and if they open they usually don't last long...people don't eat out much there. The cook at home or travel to the larger cities for a meal out. They also don't have "a church on every corner" which indicates to me that the churches are pretty solid, and not fragmented by divisions & splits. This town we live in has so much division & striff that there's churches on nearly every corner, and most of them so small they barely hang on. We plan to take Abby-girl for long leash-walks to get to know the people in our general area, and then hopefully spend some time in town to get familiar with the businesses etc., there. This is Mountain Man's home town so most everybody knows him, but not so for me. I've not ever lived in such a small community, so I'll have to learn all the streets etc. Oh well, it's small and do-able!

Cold Cold Cold here. According to the news tonight we are 6.7 inches above normal in snow fall and its been the coldest winter since 1978. It's been really windy too. And we have a lot of winter to go yet. I've been staying in a lot. Unusual for me because I like winter. Next week is supposed to be a rough one too. Monday and Tuesday night it's supposed to be 6 below. The cold weather is hurting my back lately. I feel like I've lost an entire week just laying on the heating pad with the Kindle or laptop. I really need to run errands, pay bills, get groceries, take some trash away, gas up the Jeep and go to the library but I'm dreading spending the day out traipsing around. :frozen:

We got more snow overnight and with the high winds I now have a 3 foot snow drift in my drive way.

The Toll Road is under a wind ban.which means trucks are not allowed on the toll road include triple trailers, long double big rigs and high-profile oversized loads.

I'm under a winter weather advisory. I don't think I'm going anywhere today.

Our bottom is about to drop out again. They have lowered our lows for Monday and Tuesday night to -10. I got all of my errands done that needed to be done. Tomorrow I'll turn the Jeep around in the garage again so it's facing out in case I need a jump. I probably won't need one but as sure as I don't back it in...the battery will die. This has been a hard winter for us so far.

-10 here this morning. I thought I might have to go jump start son's car but it cranked...slowly, but it did start. So I'm staying in all day. I want to transfer some of my long term rice storage from the round 5 gal. buckets to the square 4 gal. buckets. It will be a good excuse to see how the rice fared over the last 4 years.
