DH is heading to Saudi

Recommended Posts

Found out a few hours ago that DH will be flying out to Saudi Arabia Friday morning. Mixed feelings on this.....It's what we have been looking forward to b/c of the money but Middle East scares me.

His boss (also our good friend) recommended he pack some tuna pkts b/c the food on this rig is supposedly horrible. I'm looking for any other items you guys may come up with as far as food/snack items that might not take up too much room in his suitcase and carry-on. Any ideas and ALSO PRAYERS would be greatly appreciated. We have no idea how long he will be gone....a month at the least from what we understand.

Thanks guys!

If you don't have your own meals in a bag you might want to consider buying some MRE's that only need water added...? Can he carry foil bags on a plane? If so, you can pick them up at most Cabelas and BassPro stores if you don't have any other place to find them.

Is your DH military? My husband has been to the middle-east the last two years, only for a 10-day stint each time, and he said the food on the military bases was incredible. I'll ask my dh for more details, but I know he felt completely safe in Saudi Arabia. Both times he went I sent him with lots of snacks and he brought it all home with him. But again, your husband might have a different set up.

Anyway, sending prayers your way!

P.S. Set up your skype accounts now. My husband downloaded a skype app on his cell phone and that's how we were able to chat most nights for free using wireless. The only time it was a little spotty was in Afghanistan (so glad he made it safely home from that trip).

He works on oil rigs. He hasn't traveled outside the country in a long time...over 10 yrs. Usually the food on the rigs is good but this particular one it's not. SKYPE would be great but he said that he has to check his phone at the main office before he takes the helicopter to the rig :(

Then I would definitely send him with some food! Nuts, peanut butter, jerky, and some canned tuna salad would be easily portable protein sources. I would also slip in a few bags of dried fruit and maybe even some dried vegetables. JTE-25001-2.jpg This brand is really tasty and it's sold at several local retailers. Sending prayers your way!

Well, I think we have him all packed. Our friend/his boss told him when he was over they brought a mule in. It had been skinned but with guts and all still in it. They put it on top of the Living Qtrs for a few days THEN they went and start cutting it up and cooking it. GAG!!!! He said after that he never ate any meat out there. So we loaded him up on pouches of tuna and chicken, potted meat and Ritz then some small snacks. Loaded my old Nook up for him with some books to read and we are set to get him sent off tomorrow.

:pout:
