Dehydrating Green Onions

Recommended Posts

Does anyone dehydrate green onions? I would think that you would need to use parchment paper on the trays to keep the small pieces from falling through. Then slice cleaned onions, put on trays and dehydrate until dry. Is that all you do?? Sounds too easy...

Yep, that's it. Be sure to wash them well because dirt etc. can hide in the cracks and crevasses. Hepatitis and a bout of Ecoli from green onions is what closed Chi-Chi restaurants down in North America. I'd use parchment or wax paper under them because when they dry the rings will separate and shrink. I love green onions! :yum3:

I love my dehydrated green onions. Available all the time and so easy to add them to any recipe, either directly or after soaking a few minutes in hot water to rehydrate. Regrowing is fun too. I get them started in a glass of water and then put in a pot outside to do their thing. My 99-cent has nice packages of them regularly and then immediately get chopped and into the dehydrator.

I got some window screen and cut it to fit my trays for dehydrating small food. I found some thin, flexible,

plastic cutting boards and cut them to fit for fruit leather and such instead of going bankrupt trying to buy accessories.
