Momo
While doing a (rare) cabinet clean up today I found a jar of commercially jarred bread and butter pickles. The date says Best By Apr 2014. Would you open and eat them now? At least they weren't still there from my Y2K stash..lol.. Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I'd eat them with no problem. Especially since they are processed in vinegar. Also it says BEST by...not "Momo, don't you even think about opening this jar after Apr.2014". I'd eat them right away and not store them for any length of time though. And refrigerate after opening. Mt_Rider
I'm no expert but I'd agree with Jeepers MtRider Quote Link to comment

The WE2's
As for all canned/jarred foods (commercially or home) they must pass the four tests; test the seal, does it look like what it's supposed to look like?, does it smell like it's supposed to smell, and take a teeny/tiny taste...does it taste good? If it passes, I'd be eating them ...right away because you've opened them. Also, never mess with a jar or can that is bulging or has rust on it. Quote Link to comment
