adventure while fishing.....

Recommended Posts

Well, tonight was one of 'those nights'. We went fishing, because it is nice & cool down by the river and we have been stressing about trading our RV for a newer one. We caught two nice channel catfish, then decided to go home, right after Mary talked with one of the water ski show boat drivers we know (they had been practicing and were loading boats). No problem, I said, I'll watch the lines, then we will pack up.

Well...it being dusk, the ducks were coming thru the culvert we were fishing near, to settle into the lagoon for the night. None of the ducks had a problem going around our fishing lines, they had been doing it all night, except....for one young male duck, who got into a bumping match with another male as they came thru the big culvert (its a highway down there, I'm telling you!)

He took off to beat the other ducks thru and flew into one of my lines, panicked and swerved into a second one. Then he flopped around some and got all tangled up. I yelled for Mary, but she didn't hear me, so I started reeling it in, figuring I'd have to cut the lines. I wanted to leave as small a trailing part as I could so hopefully it would fall off.

The water skiing supervison/instructor saw what was going on and grabbed the duck. Mass confusion, other skiers running up with their cell phones for lighting, me running to the car for a nail clippers to safely cut those fishing lines. The poor duck was tangled up by both wings with lines going around its throat.

We managed to cut it free, salvaging the bobber, and even getting so lucky as to find the hood tucked under one wing, and NOT in the duck. I was soooo relieved. During the cutting operation, Mary came up, confused and wondering what I did now!

Duck freed, it flew off cussing us all in duck language. I started packing up, and then got another surprise....

There was a doggone fish on one of the lines (one we didn't have to cut) attached to the duck! A good sized one, but it took the hook and got away (I was dying to see what it was....),.

I could never have made this up..... but at least I have two nice catfish to clean while Mary re-strings the lines I cut from the rod.

Oh yes, our lilies are gorgeous this year, they make the fountain setting look so......european chic!
