Thyroid Help

Has anyone here ever taken over the counter thyroid supplements? I was wondering if they were helpful to you.

Even though my thyroid shows up on the low side of normal in blood tests, my Dr's ignore it. I have done the am armpit temperature and I am below normal on that test. I thought I might try a natural thyroid supplement at a low dose to see if it helps me.

Started having issues a couple of years ago (? I think) and have had to take synthroid, and have had to have it adjusted three times before things got within acceptable range. When it was out of balance, my mind was fuzzy and my balance was worse than it's ever been. Initially, the Doc called and said "no wonder you feel fuzzy! Your thyroid isn't producing anything!" Second test, had to lower the med. 3rd test raised it again. So far it's been doing ok. I'd be interested in OTC supplements too :-)

I quit taking prescription meds for thyroid when I found an OTC replacement that actually works. I get it online. One pill a day and my levels stay normal. Since this stuff is bio-identical, my body likes it much better than the synthetic meds. Look for Porcine thyroid replacement (or bovine if you prefer, porcine is more human-like).

Never heard of it. Checked some sources on line and it appears to be a little "iffy"??? on dosage.

I knew that my thyroid was doubtful about 12 months before it became an issue. I took kelp tablets in the mistaken idea that I could control it naturally. BIG mistake. When I finally got so bad I saw a Dr, I was a mess. The kelp had hidden how severe things were and did not help my situation, rather they masked the real symptoms. I then had to go cold turkey on all natural supplements for 3 months so the Dr could get a better picture of my health. I take Thyroxin now and the dose has been adjusted several times over the years. While I would like to take some natural I know that the synthetic version is monitored for consistent dosage. I fluctuate too much to do it my own.

The porcine has helped many people that could not tolerate or were not helped by the synthetic.

I have a friend that nearly went over the edge on the synthetic. She got the porcine and found a natural health doctor to help get her regulated to start with. Certain foods can send her to the ER which is related to her thyroid problem. There are times when she is on a much higher dosage and times when she can take less. She used Armour for years but their quality changed and she found another natural product that works.

I think I'll stick with the Levothyroxine (?) that I'm on. I feel so much better since it got regulated. Thyroid issues can cause LOTS of problems that I'm not willing to chance unless I absolutely have to. Just like women not having some sort of estrogen in their bodies to help prevent them from having strokes and heart attacks. JMHO.
