BigM
*Warning, kinda gross*I almost always have a headache. They range in severity from just an annoyance to OMG, make it stop. The later usually start when the weather is damp and heavy or I'm under tremendous stress. I currently have an OMG headache that has been bothering me for the last week and a half or so (which is not unusual). I feel mucus at the back of my throat and my ears feel plugged but nothing results from trying to blow my nose. I often feel like I can't get enough air and, at one point last week, the lining was so swollen I couldn't breath through my nose at all. It was so bad that it woke me from a sound sleep. The next day, while I was doing Praise and Worship, I felt a "pop" sensation followed by the smell of rotting swamp water that ran down my throat. (I warned you it was gross) Now, every time I try in vain to release the pressure by blowing my nose, nothing happens, but I can smell the rotten water smell.Any suggestions on what the issue might be and how to resolve it? Annarchy
My suggestion would be go to the Dr. To me it sounds like an infection that needs antibiotics. Quote Link to comment
Suncat
The infection may clear on it's own if it's draining. But you may need antibiotics.. As far as it goes you can look into a neti pot for rinsing the sinuses. a saline nose spray can help too, though not as thorough. bromelain (pineapple enzyme) helps reduce swelling of soft tissue, including sinus tissue and can help alleviate the pressure and encourage drainage. Vitamin C helps with sinus issues. Eucalyptus essential oil can also help. Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Just a word of caution: You don't want to mess around with infections near the brain. Ear, teeth, sinus infections are all capable of becoming deadly under certain circumstances. While DH [chiropractor/herbal guy] and I used herbs and nutritional stuff all the time, I'd vote for Western medical testing and the antibiotics if necessary. Then follow up with ongoing, methods [herbal, nutritional, etc] to maintain healthy sinus drainage. MtRider Hope you get relief and a clean bill of health. Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
It sounds like an infection. If you are blowing and nothing comes out, your sinus cavities might be swollen. Sounds like allergy too. I was going to suggest a Neti pot too. Just do not use plain water. BURNS! Quote Link to comment
BigM
Thanks for the advice. I've started some golden seal that seems to help. I've got bromelain and vitamin c in there. I tried a neti pot once for this years and years ago and WOW did that hurt! I don't remember anyone telling me not to use plain water so that's probably why! lol Quote Link to comment
CrabGrassAcres
1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp sugar per qt of water for the neti pot. It does help. Quote Link to comment
ArmyOfFive4God
I've never heard that about plain water, LOL. Never put sugar in mine, either. You are all such a weird bunch... Quote Link to comment
Suncat
Well you use saline in your eyes so it doesn't hurt.. you should do the same for your poor sinuses. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Sounds like it might be an abscess. See a doctor. Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Most recipes call for a salt and baking soda mixture dissolved in tepid water. I just buy the premade packets because I only use mine 3-4 times a year. A box of the premades last me many many years. I do have a recipe printed out just in case. Plain water will burn like a....well lets just say it burns! Quote Link to comment
BigM
Sounds like it might be an abscess. See a doctor. But I don't waaannnt tooooo.... lol I'm going to though I think, the Golden Seal helps, but it isn't making it go away entirely. At this point if I stopped taking it the issue would be back to where it was in no time. Quote Link to comment
