Mt_Rider
Ok...this is admittedly a very odd topic...even for me. I was cruising thru the Fox News page and this article caught my eye: http://www.newser.com/story/209910/its-always-march-14-2005-for-this-man.html This guy has dental surgery [and they don't know if it was related ...or causal] ...and after that he can't process memory from short-term to long term. So he remembers everything normally up til that fateful dentist visit. Anything after that, he can only retain the memory for about 90 minutes. Wow... Has anyone ever seen the movie called "Fifty First Dates". Kinda dumb but interesting concept. [Drew Barrymore/Alan Sadler] She has this as result of car accident but can remember for one full day until she sleeps. DH and I watched it years ago. And that was why this post-dental article caught my eye. So I looked up "Anterograde Amnesia" in Wikipedia ....You can remember before the event but can't log in new memories permanently. [with Retrograde Amnesia, i'ts the opposite....lose previous memories but make new ones. A person can be afflicted by both, apparently.] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anterograde_amnesia I had that....Anterograde Amnesia. No, seriously....I'm not kidding. FORTUNATELY it only lasted the major part of one day. It was July 4th...back decades ago. Our church youth group had a picnic at a local park. We were playing volley ball. I was on the sidelines.....and just happened to nail this guy with a squirt gun. So he ran after me but I tripped while heading backwards. [see...MS meant I couldn't run backwards even then]. He couldn't stop and fell on top of me and that's the last I remember clearly. The other kids told me ....repeatedly...that I hit my head on the ground. But the whole day is a blur. I'd remember for a while and then....it faded away. Aiiee! Eventually I began retaining vague memories of asking someone, "I know I've asked you this but....what happened???" By the time we went to the fireworks that night, I was beginning to form more solid memories..... somewhat. I do remember someone dropping me off at home and telling my folks about it. My mom about had a fit. I clearly remember she was so upset that someone had not taken me in to get checked. Very upset! Anterograde Amnesia. That incident so long ago has a name! Whew! So glad mine didn't last long. As we age, it does seem to be the new memories that don't get "logged in" correctly. Hmmm....that is also what happens cognitively with MS....which we now know I had even back then. Wonder if I was more prone to it after the knock on the head...? MtRider ....interesting to find new data. Poor Joe. He was a very nice guy and felt SO bad about falling on me....despite being my squirt gun victim. Jeepers
I heard a news blurb the other day about a guy who wakes up everyday thinking he has a dental appointment. I can't remember what happened to him. Maybe a stroke? Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
No, Jeepers....that's the first link story. That's the guy who can't keep memories past that dental appointment. That was what made me SO grateful that what I experienced went away after a several hours. MtRider ...freaky, isn't it? Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I thought it sounded familiar. Ugh, some days I wonder how I even get along from one day to the next. Quote Link to comment
ArmyOfFive4God
That would be awful!! Quote Link to comment
