Thanksgiving Plans

Recommended Posts

This year MIL is staying home in TX. She has already ordered a fried turkey and probably has all the trimmings already. I'm trying to prepare the animals for the trip there and back. :runcirclsmiley2: I have a plan, for the dog and ferrets and me in our little car for 7 hours. :imoksmiley: ....I think.

I had planned to get all the laundry done in order to pack the suitcases, but of all things, it has been raining for 2 days and my washer & dryer are outside. And had planned to give the animals a bath. It is not a problem with the ferrets because I can dry them with the blow dryer, but the dog? I might take a wet towel and dust him off. :sigh:

I see it is snowing in the mountains, in New Mexico and in parts of Texas. :hapydancsmil: Hopefully, by the time we decide to head out, the roads will be clear and dry.

What are your plans for next week? What are you cooking for Thanksgiving?

I have been invited to my daughters plans to be finalized next week......

that will be a 90 minute drive (each way) for me.

Dog will go with me per usual. She loves the blow dryer after her bath

and the shop vac removes a lot of loose hair and even fleas should she have any.

CGA give yourself a break!!! Spend the day outside if you have to

walking around looking- really looking at everything and give God

thanks for all that you see. From the different types of grass and the

way it grows to the bushes, trees , rocks or tiny sand, the clouds in

the sky the wind on your face...God made it all!

If you do that you will have a far better day than what I am guessing

that I will considering the past dinners.........

My family comes to my house. About 25-30 people. We have a nice meal then all will load up and head to the Black Friday sales. We have also invited a couple of friends this year (first time to do that) that really had no where else to go....

We will have our meal on Wednesday. Son and his wife are having Thanksgiving day with her family and then Christmas with us. All the other kids will be able to be here on that day also :D

A young man (20 years old), that my oldest dd graduated from high school with, invited EVERYONE on Facebook that didn't have family or a place to go to come to his house for a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday ..... I told him I thought he had bitten off way more than he could handle but that we would be free to help if he needed it.

My family usually comes down but they are unable to this year. I'm fine with it, this is a crazy, hectic time for dh and I at work and it's nice not having overnight company stress on top of all of it. My dd's best friend and her mother are coming over and we'll cook the usual Thanksgiving only recipes. In fact, I got all of my grocery shopping finished up this morning. I get to stay out of the stores for the pre-Thanksgiving madness! Hurray! :D

Another no family, no drama holiday here. DH and I have our own little traditions, though, and relax and enjoy the day. We have so much to be thankful for!!

As normal, I ordered a fresh turkey from a local turkey farm. :yum3: With all the foods I've had to give up, I'm very thankful I can still have turkey! (I just have to stick with the fresh, local ones. )

We always watch the parade and DH flips between the football games.

Ambergris, I'm with you... Absolutely! ...on CarlaJ's plans! Sounds like a wonderful plan.

We have just managed to convince one of our neighbors to babysit Grrrr, i.e. 'Barney', for next week! :woohoo: I no longer need to plan to take the dog!!! Love him, but he still hasn't show signs that he wants to be our dog. He still snaps at me when I try to correct bad behavior. We shall see how he responds to being babysat and whether he wants to come back to us. If he likes it there better than with us, so be it. He is always looking at her yard with a longing look in he eyes and body signals. When they come to visit him, he will ignore us and our commands.

I have not told MIL that we are not bringing him, and .... I do not think I will. Make it a surprise, she doesn't seem to like him anyway, always saying how she does't trust him. What ever.

blestmomof4, I will keep you in my prayers, inviting anyone from FB! Wow! I'd be freaked out.

30+ people!!!!! Deersalyer!?! Wow! Then again, when MIL was young, we'd host about that many. Just, Wow! I hope you have a wonderful time.

Andrea, I have taken my Grandmothers' special recipe for Watermelon rind pickles and made some for MIL. She told me that her DH's sister used to make them and never let her sample them. God blessed us with 2 watermelons from our garden. (We have hope, the plant that is still living has produce another one about the size of a quarter right now.) The seeds were non-gmo. The fruit brought back a flood of memories from the '60's, how food used to taste. So, I made sure that I used everything that could be harvested, including the seeds.

Awwwwwww, Twilight, your puppy sounds like our old one. He was a precious gem. :sigh: I still miss him. I hope your visit is blessed with happiness. ... hmmmm, vacuuming the bathroom after the baths? Might work. That dog sheds more then any other dog we've ever had. Especially considering he is a short haired dog. I also agree with you,..........

Now ((((CGA)))), you must take time to enjoy and be thankful for all the many blessing God has bestowed upon you this year. The ability to stock up and all the other wisdom He has given you. You make my heart and soul yearn for such blessings. And, He has also given you hope for the future, that inspires me. Plus, CGA, you keep reminding me to go out and whack down some mesquite for my BBQ and all the cooking I do on it. Baking is so much less expensive cooking over fire.

Yup, OTOO, there WILL be football on TV at MIL's house. We introduced her to DirecTV's Sunday ticket, football never ends at her house!

Oh, and ... (((((((Gofish)))))) I miss my papa & FIL. :sigh:

Philbe, I hope you are able to visit us before you go out and get away from everything. I miss the days DH & I used to go out and camp out in the middle of no where and enjoy God's great world. Just us. I pray you are blessed!

Cat, do not let life consume you. I miss you Lady.

Oh and BTW, Praise God!!!!! it stopped raining long enough to wash our laundry for the trip! :amen:

Anyway, there are still 4 more days...... WOW! Tooo soon! LOL

It will be just my son and me as usual. I'll fix turkey and all the trimmings. He wouldn't care if we just had bologna sandwiches but I look forward to the leftovers once a year. We will either watch football, movies I have, or home repair TV shows I have DVR-ed (hint-hint). Last year we went 'shopping' in the evening just to see what all the hoopla was all about. Don't think we will be doing that again this year! But who knows...we can be footloose and fancy free sometimes.

I just remembered...I ordered the first 2 seasons of Mama's Family and maybe they will be here by Thanksgiving. If so, we can have a laugh-a-thon that day. I think I remind him of Mama or maybe Eunice. :happy0203:

Praise our God!!!!!!

Laundry is done, and it started raining hard again!!!

:hapydancsmil:

Looks like our Thanksgiving meal will be just our immediate family, which suits me just fine.

Sister-in-law has surgery tomorrow to remove the (hopefully) destroyed cancer cells in her breast tissue. So I'm not sure how long that will necessitate her being in the hospital.

I haven't heard from Sis yet about their plans, probably because I caught her in a lie again and she had the decency to be semi-embarrassed about it. I'm guessing they will be invited to her Son-in-law's family dinner further south in our state.

We're going to our DD's family but in the afternoon. They go to her in-laws for lunch, and we're going for the evening meal. Last year we waited to have the *big* dinner that late, and DH hated it. Too much for so late in the day. So I'll cook here, we'll eat, and then transport leftovers there.

DD says they have very bland food with dry turkey and hardly any side dishes. She kinda likes Mom's cooking... :whistling:

Stopping in for bit...to say Happy Thanksgiving to all. The RV is loaded with our clothing & groceries, and I just finished baking the pumpkin muffins that MountainMan loves (we had a couple each...shame on us) after supper. Lots and lots and LOTS of events going on in our life right now, that keeps us on our toes on a regular basis :-( We're both in good health though and that's worth a million bucks...especially these days. Thanksgiving dinner will be turkey breast, mashed potatoes & gravy, green bean casserole, dressing, baked beans, hot rolls, pecan pie, pumpkin muffins and spiced hot chocolate and hot apple cider. We're taking the metal detector with us to do some poking around as we hike the trails etc. Never know what you'll find! Abby-girl is fine weighing in at 83 pounds, and will be 2 years old in December. Hard to believe we brought her home as a 9 pound lab/aussie puppy only 2 years ago. I gave up and allowed her to share my leather recliner this morning after I had my coffee. We both ended up taking a short snooze. The weather has been pretty chilly but is supposed to warm up Thanksgiving day so it looks like the Lord is going to bless our holiday. We'll be back home before the weather starts to remind us that's it winter :-( Everyone take care and have a safe and happy holiday.

It was going to be just me and DH. Yesterday a dear friend who happens to be a gourmet cook invited us to have one of his "Martha Stewart" style dinners. It took me about 3 seconds to say yes! I have a turkey already but I'll make it Friday for just us.

I hope everyone at MrsS has a great holiday!

Great to see ya! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and don't be such a stranger!

No big plans for us. We'll have the traditional fixins. I wanted to go the the farmers market that is only open on Tuesdays and Saturday and get some brussel sprouts that have been properly harvested so after work on Tuesday I went only to find it closed due to a major gas leak at the bank next to it.
Son has taken a big liking to brussel sprouts so next year Dh said we'll just grow our own.
Dh is giving me a small corner of the basement for food storage and a book about root cellars I read said that you can keep them short term but keeping the mice away would be a issue.
