Puzzling symptoms

Recommended Posts

I am at the end of my rope. I have had an irregular heartbeat on and off for a long time. I get short of breath when I am having symptoms. It finally got bad enough with chest pain to motivate me to see a cardiologist. They found that I have PVAs (post ventricular arithmias) on and off. They did a Holter monitor, but said they didn't find much while I wore it. I could only stand it for 24 hours because the tech who put it on me wouldn't listen when I told her I couldn't stand the tape they stuck on me. I took it off after 24 hours and had blisters where the tape was.

I also have fibromyalgia and am very fatigued a lot of the time. I don't mean tired, I mean soooo tired I can't function. Sometimes at the end of the workday I worry about making it home in one piece.

I have suffered from vertigo for a long time too. It seems to be getting worse.

I have recently developed very painful foot and leg cramps, too.

To top it all off, I have started having memory problems and trouble with directions. By trouble with directions I mean I may know that a particular place is to the west of where I live, but I will head east thinking it's the right way. Only when I realize that the street numbers are wrong do it occur to me that I went the wrong way.

I don't seem to have a thyroid problem (one thing my doctor suspected). The cardiologist has no answers. Do any of you have a clue as to what may be my problem?

How is your potassium? I had a lot of those same symptoms, the irregular heartbeat on and off, short of breath, so tired I couldn't even sit up. When it got to where I couldn't walk to the bathroom that I went to the ER. It took them 3 days to get my potassium up where it belonged, it was that low. Mine was an extreme case though.

Are you having any weakness on one side of your body, slurring words, unable to grip things. That could be a sign of a stroke.

No signs of a stroke. I do have weird numbness in my face, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Doctors seem to be next to useless. I stayed home from work today. I've already taken two naps not because I'm lazy but because of crushing fatigue. I managed to clean out the refrigerator and make a trip out for pet supplies. Beyond that, a wasted day. :(

No one has thought to check potassium or magnesium. Imagine that! The cardiologist did put me on a beta blocker that had bad side effects and no improvement in symptoms.

Just the magnesium can control irregular heart beat.. it's also a factor in several of the other things..

Also the Adrenal glands MUST have B-complex and vitamin C to function properly.. and those also make a big difference in things like fatigue.

Blood work for potassium and magnesium aren't really useful as both move into and out of tissues. Magnesium will deplete seriously in total body amount before it shows as a low blood level. Potassium is sometimes a problem, but mostly if you are taking diuretics or vomiting a lot.

Don't push too hard against the fatigue. Take all the naps your body wants, but do start getting the vitamin and mineral supplements on board.
