CrabGrassAcres
Sounds interesting, but I don't particularly care to have myself "exposed" to millions for their entertainment. Quote Link to comment

The WE2's
Not the least bit interested ... especially to line somebody else's pockets ... ie: National Geographic being first on the list. How about their "staff" becoming "doomsday preppers" and do for themselves? Quote Link to comment
coastygirl
No way--no how !!! Quote Link to comment
Suncat
Do people prep for just ONE type of event? hmm I guess maybe if you live with a high probability of something like in tornado alley or hurricane or earthquake country you might.. but that would be more at the level of "a bad storm" that they're not looking for. Andrea
I don't mean to be snarky, but did you look at our forum tagline? "Women helping women survive in the real world." There is very little that is "real" about Doomsday Preppers which makes it a show I almost never watch, except when I need a good laugh. I mean seriously, buying a helicopter as a "prep" item? Men Boys burying explosive charges in their own driveway so they can blow up beater cars? Watching two clueless girls spend an hour building a "chicken coop" that a racoon could get into in less than a minute? And the cataclysmic events the preppers supposedly "prep" for? Axis shift? Asteroids? Oh, how about alien invasions? Have you guys done that one yet? Seriously, have you read the site? Sure, we talk about extreme "what ifs" but most of us have a well stocked pantry to deal with the not so extreme events: illness, job loss, divorce, mental health issues, homelessness, elderly parents, death, etc. These events are far more devastating than a stupid space rock. Why? Because these are the shtf situations that have touched everyone of us on this board in a very real, very catastrophic way. These are the situations that are far more likely to happen, and these are the situations that actually do happen. Sure, we may talk about composting toilets, and yes, a composting toilet would probably be a handy thing to have in a post-apocalyptic world. But do you know why most of us find the subject interesting? Because most of us garden. Why? Because food is not always affordable, is not always nutritious, and is quite often contaminated with FDA approved toxins. $hit is one of our most undervalued resources. Do you know how much water we could save? Do you know how much more fertile our soil would be if we composted our waste instead of flushing it away? And more importantly, do you know how much money we would save by making our own compost instead of buying it from the store? Because, you see, I don't think anyone here on this board has the means to buy a helicopter. Many of us struggle to buy compost, which is why homemade composting toilet threads can become quite the interesting topic of discussion here at Mrs. Survival. Again, I apologize for the snark, but I don't think you'll find many "Doomsday Prepper" types here. There is nothing sensationalistic about the very real day to day survival that our members go through and I don't think your commercial sponsors would take too kindly by learning how many of their products people can live actually live without! (You should really check out the thread that discusses how toxic and unnecessary fabric softeners and dryer sheets are - truly mesmerizing television material! ) Quote Link to comment

Andrea, you hit the nail on the head! You rock Lady! I really should not be encouraging flaming..... but it is the truth. Quote Link to comment
Cat
She's not "flaming" us. I agree - NO WAY would I open myself and my family up to the ridicule that those shows create. Makes everyone who *thinks ahead* look like a fool screaming into the night. Well said, Andrea! Quote Link to comment

Annarchy
That show is nothing more than self inflicted drama and stupidity. It's become a how not to for those that know better, and a matter of ridicule to those that don't. Quote Link to comment
Annarchy
Oh my! DH said it best: "A prepper is nothing more than a hoarder with a plan!" Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Prepper = an organized hoarder. I think most of those Doomsday Prepper's are more like survivalists and not preppers. Or rather wannabe survivalists. And also, people who just want to be on TV. 15 minutes of fame. Look what happened to the one guy who got his guns taken away. He was deemed mentally/emotionally unfit to have them after being in TV. Having said that, I do like the show. Comic relief sometimes but I have learned a few things too. Sometimes what not to do. But I did learn the value of spreading broken glass to keep animals (2-4 legged) away. And I remember a woman and husband who blew up their yard to have an underground bunker installed. Half way through it...they decided to divorce. Who got what? A real mess. A real angry mess. Quote Link to comment
ROBIE
So, the original poster, named "Prepper Casting", is looking for preppers for Discovery Chanel? and he only has 2 posts so far? And by the looks of things, we all seem to have the same mind set: "This is BS!!" This guy, coming on the forum to do a casting call like this is just like the guy who farted in the elevator and laughs about it. Robie Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Agreed Robie...now I'm wondering if we need to ask to get it removed & blocked? Are we "at risk" with our information? I'm considering removing my postings for the time being... Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Why? Surely anyone posting on a site with the word "survival" in it understands some realities come with that..... MtRider ....iffen ya wanna .....ya don't do it here. But...discretion in what you tell is obviously a good idea. Quote Link to comment

(Though my organization is lacking since I was sick + holidays + New Year havoc- kids & Hubba like to toss groceries into the nearest closet & call it good *sigh* I'm on that this week, though). CrabGrassAcres
I'm willing to share info and encourage others online because very few who are reading this know my name or address and none of them live near me. I figure gov snoops have ways of finding stuff out, but I'm such small potatoes that I don't think I have anything to fear from them. It is the "I know whose house I'm going to when SHTF" crowd that concerns me that would recognize me on national tv. I try to keep quiet about such things close to home. Everyone around here knows I have the animals and they also know I do a monster shop every month or two. One of the neighbors drives me to the store. What I have stashed is my business. Annarchy
Most everyone who visits our site can only glean a certain amount of info about us. Only what we have shared. There have been other posts which are looking for people interested in off grid TV shows, which is the only reason I left this one. Our input into how we feel about that type of thing, may give them a different perspective as to what a "real world" prepper is all about. Specifically, Mrs Survival. We have countless years of experience in providing and caring for our families regardless of what issues arise, whether financial chaos, natural disasters, and the rising cost of groceries, etc. Hopefully, Preppers Casting will contribute to our forum as most of our member do. Moderators: If you feel this is a threat, please delete it. Quote Link to comment
Cat
Nobody on the internet should ever feel like they're traveling incognito. Snowdon's revelations, truth or not, opened that door so we can see. And it's never gonna close now. It's always been a very open statement here that *most* of us will have an economic "disaster" rather than something catastrophic. I prep for real life, not the end of the world. If that comes, I already know where I'm going... Quote Link to comment
