Here is the story:

 

When I got to the site this morning to post I saw a lot of posts by a new member. They were posts in a lot of forums. When I opened several of the posts they were in french and filled with links. The member's ID stated they lived in the USA but their IP address showed it as being in another country. I deleted a post and started to delete others when I thought maybe I should save the post & let Cat know about them.

 

I copied some post & notified her and she looked at them & by mistake moved the entire thread to where post go to be looked into when reported. Cat has her plate full right now & made an honest error. But the error was started by me. If I had notified her or Annarchy first this would never had happened.

 

Therefore I take the blame for her mistake. Annarchy has since taken care of the posts.

 

Clear as mud?

I'm just glad we have this soft place to land, 'warts & all'. I know it takes a lot of time out of the day to maintain this site up to our standards and I really appreciate it. ok.... it happens. Too bad they did not use google translate to get it in English as the majority of us read and write in English and it is simply a second language for some. Makes me curious about the content.... I was so busy, but I did take French in college and with google translate I could have screened the subject matter but I was so busy the past two days with my writing I don't think I noticed even if I 'checked in.'

Cat, you can always holler to me on the phone .

If it was innocent posts and not rabble rousing where it should be, I can see absolutely deleting, some of us are "rebel children", me included, so I know how that goes but if it was meant well, it makes me feel bad we may have restricted someone who was undeserving of censorship. I can understand the sensitivity levels going on, we see so much garbage going on , and want to protect folks from what might have been something way off base for this site and thats ok, but it's possible it was just confusing as heck, so better safe than sorry. Obviously if it was nasty stuff, eliminate it if you figure that out at a glance.

I have a familiarity with French and Spanish and a tiny bit of Gaelic and have dictionaries and stuff to refer to ...... so I could copy and paste passages if they are not super long and re post if it was decent material on the thread subjects.... you do get the gist of things although google translate may not be perfect, dialects can vary. I am no expert but google translate can be a very helpful tool in such a case. I could do a percentage anyway.

Yes, this was quite definitely nasty spam. It was from the Ukraine, which is notoriously known for creating havoc and nasty viruses.

 

It had way too many links, and maybe they thought we'd click to see something "exotic" because it was in French.
