Cat
It's not always fun times with the grandchildren. Some days it's mostly way too much *poop*. Like last Monday. (Don't ask!) But today was a treasure. I always liked to tell my kids ahead of time what was going to happen, and give them constructive ways to deal with any possible problems. I continue that with DGS, when I can. The baby had a doctor's appointment this week, so I told DGS. He asked if she was getting a shot, because he doesn't like it when she cries. I told him that she might, but I knew something he might try to help her get happy again. I told him he could ask Mommy & Daddy if he could hold her hand after the shots, so she could see him and smile. He thought that would be a good idea. Well, as it turned out, he didn't hold her hand that night. But this morning my daughter woke up, heard the baby crying, and hurried to get her shower done *fast* so she could feed her. When she got out, it was silent. OH, NO... and then when she headed to the baby's room, she saw that DGS's door was open - oh, now what? She stepped in the room to see her precious three-year-old gently holding his baby sister's hand, smiling at her and talking gently. She was happy, lost in looking at her big brother's sweet face. Later that afternoon after DGS's nap (after a frustrating-at-times day), I sat him down and told him how very proud I was that he had helped Mommy by holding his sister's hand and helping her to be happy until Mommy could feed her. I told him that he had made Mommy's heart happy. His face lit up, and I watched him thinking things through. Then he turned and asked me, "Do you think I made Jesus' heart happy, too?" I had tears in my eyes as I told him, "Yes, Jesus LOVES the children. I'm SURE that you made Jesus' heart happy!" Quote Link to comment

After your own unhappy upbringing you have created your own loving family showing them love you did not get. You are instilling traits that will never be forgotten- at least I hope they will not! Thank you so much for sharing Twilight, you cannot know how much your comments touch my heart tonight. I met with gofish yesterday for a few minutes, and left feeling I had said too much. It set my thoughts on a lot of the past again and it gets hard sometimes to get back out of it. You just said what God has been trying to get me to remember all day. I was too busy beating myself up. Thank you. Thank you *ALL*. Quote Link to comment

gofish
Cat, when I read my Bible I read a chapter in the Old testament, one in the New testament , A chapter in Psalm and one in Proverbs. My Psalm for the day is Psalm 91. You are a creative wonderful Mom and Grandma. I find you to be just as caring and encouraging face to face as you are here. your family is blessed indeed to have you. I think you are a great example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Psalm 91:1-16English Standard Version (ESV) My Refuge and My Fortress91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.2 I will say[a] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge[b]—10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.12 On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.13 You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.15 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Footnotes: Psalm 91:2 Septuagint He will say Psalm 91:9 Or For you, O Lord, are my refuge! You have made the Most High your dwelling place Quote Link to comment
Cat
Oh, gofish, I am SO far away from the Proverbs 31 woman! But my family overlooks my failures and loves me, anyway. Well, my real family - DH & kids. Thank you for the scriptures. It is balm to my soul. God has upheld me when no one else could. Quote Link to comment
