WormGuy
I'm going to can some chili tomorrow and I have a bunch of tomato sauce (8 oz. cans) that I'm thinking about adding to the mix just to use it up. I'm not sure how it will affect the taste tho. Anyone done this before or should I not add it? John Quote Link to comment
ScrubbieLady
I have used canned tomatoes or tomato sauce in chili. Works. Just remember that canned tomato sauce will be sweet. Quote Link to comment
WormGuy
Thanks Scrubbie, I didn't use it cause I don't want sweet chili. Maybe I can use it when I do spaghetti sauce next year. John Quote Link to comment

WormGuy
I'm out of the paste but I have a lot of the sauce (case sale). I would rather use it than throw it away. John Quote Link to comment
Canned Nerd
Why would you through it away? Canned tomato sauce will last for many years. Quote Link to comment
WormGuy
It's already 3 years old. I usually don't get concerned until something hits 5 years. I have so much of it I don't want to risk losing any of it. I'm a sucker for case sales. John Quote Link to comment

John I posted my recipe for taco sauce here...it uses tomato sauce...and taste alot like TB's mild taco sauce. I've got 2 pints in my frig now. I just didn't mix up enough of a batch to warrant canning. Quote Link to comment
Canned Nerd
I wonder at the practical application of using a dehydrator for the tomato sauce and grind it to a powder. I do that for tomatoes and it works well. It would take awhile but would have no expiration to worry about. Quote Link to comment
WormGuy
Hmmmm, that is a thought I will have to consider, thanks! John Quote Link to comment
