  1. Happy New Year to everyone!
  2. Wow….I’m REALLY late to my own party…. Thanks for the birthday wishes.
  3. Do we have members in Florida and the surrounding areas? Can you check in? I’ve been watching the news and the reports coming in are pretty bad for some areas.
  4. Looks delicious Mother! Anne and MT3B, I had real issues with bag of soil as well this year. I’ve had at least two full grown perennial plants that died after I re-potted them with purchased soil. They were a couple of years old and they were doing extremely well and within a week of being replanted they just started dying. This was not miracle Gro but a brand purchased from Ace Hardware. And other people in my area have said similar things that they’ve had really poor yields with soil in bags that they purchased this year. I’ve been trying to come up with ways to create my own soil in a small space…the problem with that it’s difficult to do that in a small space.
  5. Mother, have you tried kale or peas? They’re one of the things we grow as cool season crops here. Broccoli and broccoli raab is another.
  6. Hey folks! Sorry I’ve been MIA. The garden was a bit of a bust this summer. Our weather was very different this year...several times where we had a week of over 100 degree days (102 right now and supposed to be 106)...then it would drop down into the 60’s overnight some nights. I didn’t get one single squash....never had a season without zucchini before.... I have planto that are just sitting there…they flower… I tried to hand pollinate and still nothing. My watermelon plants are struggling… I get these very tiny watermelon and then the whole plant is dying. I’ve been dealing with spider mites in my beans. I did get a lot of cherry tomatoes and some Roma tomatoes… But just enough to eat fresh. And I do have to admit that my grapevine did well. So I will have enough to make grape jelly. We haven’t had a drop of rain since the end of May so I am watering my containers either every day or every other day but it still doesn’t seem to make a difference sometimes. One of my biggest concerns is the lack of pollinators. I put water out to attract them and I have flowers but it is just not what it used to be. Sorry to be a Debbie downer but it has been really disappointing. I’m starting to just tear everything out and figure out what I want to put out for my fall garden.
  7. Becca Anne her birthday came up on my FB page on Aug 1.
  8. Midnight mom! I love this puzzle site!
  9. Thank you! I am having a very exciting day today. I told my family that I don’t need any things...because I really don’t. But, that I would love to have help in my garden and with inventorying my pantry. So my kids and hubby are emptying out the pantry and inventorying it and we are having a garden work party. We are going to have cheesecake and Chinese food after as well... Woohoo! Best birthday gift ever!
