Jeepers
This lady is so sweet. There are 12 episodes and mostly Italian cooking. She also talks a little about living in the depression. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAa4-cctmDk&list=TLP7UFSXxN3KWprmBCG5sUZbSJdwODbpz7 Quote Link to comment

kappydell
She also had a book out (I got it when I was researching Depression era recipes for my recipe compilation "the budget is in the crapper again' cookbook for a new bride.) It was fascinating, and I did appreciate the burdock recipe, seeing as how I have plans for the ones in the garden.... Edited October 16, 2013 by kappydell Quote Link to comment

Rundgrenfan
Isn't she lovely. I'm so glad her family thought to put her wonderful cooking and stories on video for those of us who miss our grandmas! It got me thinking about something my grandmother used to make called cottage pudding. It was a yellow cake with a chocolate pudding topping, but I can't quite replicate it. Even the Fannie Farmer recipe is not quite right. Is there a thread on this website for "lost" recipes? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Canned Nerd
You betcha. Uncle Phaedrus, Finder of Lost Recipes. If my 1950's era memory serves me right, it was a vanilla sauce on the cake that I got served when the relatives got together at my grandparent's. Have you tried to do a Google search for 'Cottage Pudding'? Quote Link to comment
Rundgrenfan
Oh yes, I have searched for, found, and tried, many versions. My grandmother's had chocolate pudding sauce, not vanilla like most of the online versions. I just can't get the taste quite right. Thank you for the link! Quote Link to comment
