Surname roll call

carr

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all ... it's my first post to The Family Tree ...

I've looked back at some the old posts and didn't find what I was looking for. So I'm just wondering ... have you ever started a roll call with members listing the surnames they are researching?

It's a small world after all (teehee). We might just get lucky and have an overlap somewhere!!!

What duya think?

About 5 years ago, when Survivor started, we did something like that here, with names. smile

Wow, my DH has Moore, as well as Ferguson on his side, and I have Bailey, way way back on my side.

So I'll add a couple here:

Bartlett

Martin

Lee

Jones

Gugin

Clark

Scott

That is a start. smile

It is the Lee and Jones we are sort of stuck on.

Thanks for replying Snowmom. My Fergusons are one of my brick walls ... in Tennessee. My grandmother was a Ferguson and we have no idea who her father was. My Moore's and Baileys (if I have the right connection -- just a hunch at this point) are in Georgia.

Ring any Bells for your lines?

Thanks Screaming Eagle and Momo. Should we start a comprehensive list and bump it to the top? Oh yeah, and does anybody know how to do that??? lol confused

Let me see, I am thinking that all of DH's relatives would probably be around Iowa and so who knows for sure. People did move around back in the early 1900's and 1800's too.

I was sure there were Fergusons on my side too, and I checked. They are in Canada but, of course could be other places too.

We could start a sticky post with all of our sir names if enough are interested.

Oh, I know there are at least 3 or 4 of us on here who have Jones in our backgrounds. smile

I was looking for the Survivor name list and I couldn't find it, so maybe it was deleted during an update to the site.

MacCormack ( Ny State) May be related to Buchanans and MacLeans in Scotland prior to four years after the Battle of Culloden, Scotland.

Kondratowicz, Alexa, Alexander in Vilnius/Vilna Lithuanian or Polish territory depending on year, Prior to 1907 and also after 1915 for a few years

Also look at business ties possibly as far back as 1700s between Kondratowicz and LaFerriere ( have seen brandy label with both names.... was told early in life they had been long time friends... ) .

Hurley

LaFerriere

Turner

Wilson

Yingst ( Middletown PA Amish, also MacCormack in Amish)

Collett, Theodore, master carpenter from Oslo Norway, going back to Camilla Collett

( Have to look at Dads baby book for more of his side)

Dusablon possibly married LaFerriere

Oops. I didn't think to add places. My family from Mississippi and Louisiana mostly. I know some may have been from Texas, Georgia, or North Carolina also.

Forrest family from Amite, MS... traced back to TN also. Furthest is for Richard Forrest b. 1767, son of Richard C. Forrest.

Was it around Mapleton? That is where the Jones and Scotts were.

What Johnson's are you looking for, can you give some names??

I'm adding a list of several names in the other thread, the one that I put all the names in order.

George Riley Johnson was an assemblyman to the New York State assembly from Neversink Township New York. He married Lucellia Jane Lamont. They moved to Kellettville in Forest County Pa. in the 1890's where he built what was at one time the largest tannery on the East Coast. He was my great-great grandfather. That's all the further back I have gotten. Family legacy says that he was part Native American. I have not been able to verify that and have not been able to find out anything further back than George Riley. Since he is listed in the who is who of the 23rd Judical district of Pa. you would think I would be able to find more information! Of course I did not know him but his grandson was my grandfather. He was a gentle, very dignified, hard working man with a great sense of humor and I adored him. I would like to find out more about his roots.

I've got two JONES lines, both driving me nuts.

My paternal names are from Ireland (counties Clare, Kilkenny & Tipperary) immigrating to Illinois:

Freeman

Hogan

Kilpatrick

Quinn

Gorman

Dillon

Mullen

My maternal names go back in America to 1620s in Virginia, from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales:

Sanders

Rook/Ruark

Thornhill

Johnson

Riggins

Hurt

Wright

Turner

Allen

Jones (two lines back in Sumner Co TN to 1800 then poof!)

Love

McNeal

Britten/Brittain

Hollowel

Cutchins

Davis

All my maternal ancestors followed a VA/MD to NC to TN line. Some were Quakers early on. Great history lessons!

If you go to the thread I started, "Surnames Starting With 'A'", you will find most of the names from my genealogy there.

I'm thinking there could ba a 'King', 'Dowdy', and not sure what other name that some of you have listed. I do know there are 'Young's' in the family way back.

Of course, Johnson, Jones, Bartlett, Lee, Gugin, Martin, are all the closest to me.

Mtn Mama, I know of course, there is Johnson, Jones, and Mullen in the family. I'm also thinking the name 'Davis' could be too, I'd have to check for sure.

You know, the name Freeman, is the first name of one of my cousins, I'm wondering if possibly it could be a bit back on his dad's side.

Again, I have a lot of names in the other thread. smile

I'm looking for more info on the Abingtons (the family that lived next door to G. Washington's father.) The Kimbrells (Kimble, Kimball, Kimbel, Kimbrel), Brashier, in Alabama, S Carolina, NC, Virginia and the colonial area. Particularly I am looking for Ransom Kimbrell and info about the masacre and survivors since that is where I lost the thread.

Also looking for info on the Biddy family of Alabama and the Bells, Popes and Welches of Mississippi. The Gilmores came over with Flora McDonald and I'm trying to trace them to my family in MS.
