Jeepers
Well, I'm about to try to 'fix' my computer so I'm liable to be missing for a few days because I'll probably end up taking it to the Geek Squad to undo the damage I'm about to inflect on it. I've lost 2 of my tool bars and I'm going to try a 'restore' first and if that doesn't work I'm going to try to reinstall them. I really need my AOL tool bar because that is where my email is and now I don't have access to any of it. I really don't understand computers. I swear I didn't do anything differently. Sometimes I turn it off and everything is fine and the next time I turn it on it's all messed up. I didn't load or delete anything. Makes me crazy-er. So, I'm gonna do a major backup on everything first and have at it. If I'm missing a few days...I'll just be at B$st Buy hovering around. A dangerous place for me to be. Second only to Low$s and Hom$ D$pot. Quote Link to comment
WormGuy
You can try reinstalling the latest version of AOL and see if that cures the issue. It should not mess up anything. John Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Poor Jeepers! Remember the motto: Computers are great ....until they're not! Second motto: They cheat! MtRider ....wanna borrow my bat? Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Are there some mischevious critters hiding on your hard drive or in your software...:-) Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Thanks guys. I got through this one without a screwdriver or hammer. I restored it 'to an earlier date' and everything came back except the weather icon on the toolbar. It was a good one but I'm leaving well enough alone for now. I went to the 'customize my AOL toolbar' thingy to add the weather app but it is a different one and not as good. Oh well, I still have the desktop one...not as good either. I may still take it in for a good tune up soon since I already have the plan paid for and everything is newly backed up. For now --------> Quote Link to comment

ArmyOfFive4God
AW Jeepjeep! You have the worst luck with computers! Glad you were able to make it through with both of you (you & the 'puter) alive Quote Link to comment

Mt_Rider
I heard on Fox news that someone from CO took his computer out back and SHOT IT! ....I think he's in trouble with a city ordinance so he's not saying it's a good idea. MtRider ....we know how to handle such things out here in the Wild Wild West! Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I do have terrible luck with computers! It isn't like I try to do anything fancy with them. I hardly ever download stuff except some PDF's and free books from Amazon. I rarely get virus' and if I do, my virus protectors get them before I even knew they were coming. I can shut the thing down at night with everything great and turn it on the next day and find it's gone haywire. It isn't just this computer it's all of them. Which leaves one common denominator...ME. The other day all at once all of my typing came out in capital letters and I didn't have the 'caps lock' on. I had to type with the 'lock' on and when I wanted a capital letter, I had to turn the 'lock' off. Just out of the blue I'm typing along and I notice everything is suddenly in capital letters and the 'caps lock' isn't on. Next time I turned the computer on everything was fine. Sometimes all at once the scroll bar on the left will get stuck. The page is frozen and no matter where I put my mouse on the page, it will fly up and down as I move the mouse around. I can't click off of the page. Everything freezes except the mouse making the page go up and down. I'm getting that one figured out though. Sometimes if I mash both sides of the mouse buttons at the same time and then slide the cursor off of the page really fast 5-6 times, it will come out of it. Stuff like that is driving me "batstuff" crazy. I have to buy all of my computers at Best Buy because of the Geek Squad. It's cheaper for me to buy their 2 year warrantee plan than to take it to a repair type shop. Besides, I'm on a first name basis with all of the Geeks now. They offer me water or coffee when I go in. Bless their hearts. Believe me, I've been tempted to take it out back and shoot it. Put us both out of my misery. I've really been tempted to take the axe to it but then it wins. In the past I've bought new computers thinking heck with it, I'm going to just start all over. Now with Windows 8, there is no way I want to make that change; I've heard it's awful. I haven't got Windows 7 figured out yet. I've decided I really like the internet but I hate computers. I've got a chance to get an "Apple i " something or other with my rewards I have accumulated from my bank. I'm not sure if I'm up to the challenge/aggravation though. We all know I'll never get that one figured out on my own. Will probably settle for a Wal-Mart gift card instead. Edited: Dang, that post came out long! I do feel better though.
