Rethinking remodel

Recommended Posts

We have bought an old house and it needs some remodeling and one of the areas in desperate need is the kitchen. I have decided that I am going to look into a gazebo with power outlets. Since I don't have much cabinet space I am drying most of the food I am storing this year. and I think a gazebo would be the best place to set up dehydrators. I could screen it in put a work table with a sink and set up shop. This way we could also use it for eating during the summer when we grill. Yep I see a gazebo in my future.

Anyone else have a "summer kitchen" where they do their dehydrating and canning? What are some things in your kitchen or would like to have in your summer kitchen?

Looking for ideas.

I have one of those portable roaster things. I've taken it out to the porch to avoid heating up the house.

MtRider .....do you have any critters [raccoons, neighbor cats, etc] that might get thru the screens?

I had to explain to my son what a summer kitchen was, and now he's all in favor of helping build and pay for one. You might consider a laundry tub for the sink. It's finally a place where any pot you have will fit.

I have the one in the last pic. It's in the basement and perfect for utility things like washing duck eggs, soaking/pre-washing filthy garden clothes, washing lots of garden produce..... In all my BugOut scenarios, I plan to take that too. If we had to camp, that would really make things easier. Has been used to bath a young child too.

Love that first picture! I have a double sink in my basement that the washer drains into. It was here when I moved in. Actually, I'd rather have a single one. The double one is so big.

Forgot to add: When my son dried hot peppers, we put the dehydrator in the garage because of the smell. Otherwise, I use it in the kitchen but I usually dehydrate frozen food so I wait until winter to add heat.
