Starting Genealogy

Recommended Posts

You might call this Lesson One.

I know there are a lot of sites where you are able to have lessons on genealogy. I myself think that the first thing to do is to make charts and fill them out. Start with the easy charts and go from there. Start with your own, then your parents and grandparents. In other words, start from now and work back. Get all the dates and places you can. This is really a great help. Also when filling out the dates on the charts, always put day/month/year, 20/April/1865, this is just an example.

I am NO expert at this by any means. I have been working on genealogy off and on for well over 25 years and have been interested in it a lot longer.

Heck with the charts I take the log cabin, setting of mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams. Plus I like the long hair. From a long time family researcher you gave a good lesson. Have you been to (dearmyrtle.com) I hope I spelled that name right. She is fantastic and has a series of lessons on line

Aww, you did spell it close enought that when I copied and pasted it worked. smile

I have been there, but it has been a while. Momo had posted about 'Genealogy for kids', and that is the site she sent us to.

Now, for some update info. When the site was updated last, most of our posts were changed to someone else posting them. All of my posts up to that point in time are now under LCM. So, it was I who had posted the above post. smile But, that is ok. You are new here and didn't realize it. I like her sig too. smile She and I have an understanding and she knows that she is my poster pal. smile
