Government At Work

Recommended Posts

I had an interesting night watching government at work. Oh my, it's a long story but to try to make it short, SDP wants to build another building to use as an infirmary. Mostly as a quarantine because of Parvo and the Dog Flu etc. The building inspector approved it and then for some reason (neighbors) denied it.

Tonight there was a town hall meeting and it was broadcast live on the Internet. It was really interesting watching how the board worked and how they came to their conclusions. Carlene and Bentley were there in front along with her attorney. Some people spoke in favor of the permit and a lot of people spoke against it. SDP people packed the room but only one spoke to the issue. It didn't really matter in the end because the laws were the laws and they were all being followed to the letter. The main guy (don't know what the title is) went through each law and explained them in detail so there wouldn't be any misunderstandings. It was interesting hearing other people's rational. Some people thought she was going to run a vet hospital there. One man was very upset because SDP is starting to use their own driveway...on their own property. The meeting lasted 3 1/2 hours. Ava and Bentley slept through the whole thing. Good doggie's.

Anyway, 'we' won and will get 'our' infirmary! It will be built so all of the walls, ceiling and floor can be washed down and disinfected. Oh and new puppies should be coming in a week or two.

On his property, or theirs? If his, same problem here. Here is a new wrinkle. We use cameras to capture plates. Then call them in to the sheriff to get a 'writ of no trespass'. If, on serving, the camera gets them again, it is a misdemeanor, and goes up to low felony with repeats. Not any more, they will not do a lookup, only law enforcement may, and not at the request of citizens. Some thefts reported. The online plate lookup services are not that accurate. Our emergency services work hold us in 'good stead' with the local authorities though, so we might get some help.

SDP?

The driveway is a secondary rarely used driveway. It will be used more often when the infirmary is built but still not the main driveway to her property, which sits way back from the road. The neighbor said Carlene couldn't use it because it was too close to his property. Carlene paid a surveyor to come out and make sure. Her driveway is on her property by several feet. Up until now she was sharing the driveway with the neighbor and even plowing it in the winter.

The thing is, the entire area is zoned agriculture and there has always been a farm there. Some guy sold his land and built a subdivision next to Carlene's property. Now they want to complain about it being a working farm. She was there first by many many years.

This property is very large. To qualify for everything she has, she has to have 5 acres. I know she has at least 10 acres. It sort of turned into a mob mentality stirred up by the other peoples lawyer because none of them did their homework and they were blowing up over assumptions that were false. At the end they came off looking stupid and mean. The meeting was televised live and they will also archive it so those people will get a chance to watch themselves picking on a 78 year old woman.

SDP is Service Dog Project. Carlene breeds, raises and trains Great Danes and then donates them free to people (especially veterans and some children) who have mobility problems. It's all done through charity and the Annenberg foundation has installed cameras around the place that run live 24/7 for people to watch. Maybe one of those cameras should be turned toward that nasty vile neighbor.

Some people have a lot of nerve. She had to hire a lawyer and the other people had to hire two. If they would have just read the laws in that town none of this would have had to happen. Once a building inspector told her, "You are just a woman and are in way over your head." She has never forgotten that. She was prepared.

Amazingly ILLOGICAL to be so attached to an erroneous point of view. Sometimes it seems like 2/3rds of all folks do that. What a waste of everyone's time/money/energy.

AND the old saying: A person 'convinced' against their will...is of the same opinion STILL! :shakinghead:

MtRider ...hmph, glad some folks in her county can read.

Really. You wouldn't believe the lies that were told too.

Gambling
Alcohol
Loud Music
One guy saw llamas

Not a single one of those things are on that property. Uh, it's on camera 24/7/365. Carlene is old. She goes to bed at 8:00pm. LOL

Only one time did Carlene nudge her attorney to say something for her. The subdivision people were very upset that Carlene had some trees cut down. Many of them were dead or dying. "Widow Makers." No matter they are her trees! So Carlene told her atty. to tell them that when ALL of the trees that abutted HER property were cut down to build THEIR houses, not one person asked her if it was okay and she never said a word to them about it. Silence. They knew they were moving in next to a farm and SDP was up and running when they moved there. It's a farm. There is no limit on animals or what kind you can have and there is no noise ordinance. They knew where they were buying. Oh, and before anyone built, Carlene posted signs saying it was a working farm. There has been a lot of stress put on Carlene and at her age it isn't healthy. Oh, the driveway guy is angry because when she cut the trees down he can now see the llamas. Never been a llama on the property. The dogs are big but not llama big. And he is now afraid one of the volunteers going there will steal his canoe and scope out his property from HER driveway. Lie after lie. One smart aleck said he wondered if she would get elephants and monkeys next. The subdivision has an HOA and there is plenty of wealth living there. Snooty entitled privileged people. I get crazy just thinking about it again.

Everyone was up in arms about the number of dogs that would be added to the property (no limit - doesn't matter) because of the 'infirmary'. Another lie. Not one dog would be added. It's a sick bay for any animal already there. Dr. George the vet did an excellent job explaining what the infirmary was for. My blood pressure is rising again. Pfffft.

I do have the link in case any one is interested. Click on where it says 'ICam' in the upper left.
