granddaughters not getting well

I have 2 granddaughters age nearly 5 and nearly 3..Last July they came down with colds..Ultimately after normal care they just kept getting worse. Upon taking them to the doctor he says the older one has tonsillitus and the 3 year old has pneumonia..He prescribed medicines and over a few months they got better..But they never seemed really well..They are very active little girls and it seemed like they were better.. A week or so ago the oldest one started getting a sore throat and a temp of 103. The 3 year old developed a bad cough..Their mom took them i

back to pediatrician and its the same diagnosis as before. the doctor has prescribed steroids and meds for them and twice daily inhalation treatments for the older one and 4 times daily for the younger one..These kids get sick frequently and we are getting very concerned that something really bad is at work here. I just don't think its normal for kids to be sick so much..Has any one of you ever heard of problems like this? Ever had any experience with this. Isn't it odd that such a small child keeps getting pneumonia?

Sorry they are so ill.

Once off the meds for a bit, can they get pnuemonia shots ? Also, I would be sure to read up on vitamins and essential oils, too. There are some great natural things to give children for their immune systems. You can rub essential oils on their feet and it will go through their bodies. Dilute some peppermint oil and some lavender oil and rub on their cheeks and chests. Just be sure the peppermint is not too strong or it will make their eyes water.

Give lots of vitamin c and d, too.

Steroid are awful to a body. I never want to take them again.

This is not normal. Have they seen another doctor?

The pediatrician had my older son on antibiotics over and over and over for a full year, so I took the kid to my general practitioner, who said his little system was off balance in part from all that pink stuff. We took him off it, gave him baby Tylenol instead, and the doctor made arrangements for me to be able to bring him in any morning or afternoon without an appointment if needed. He got better and didn't get another ear or throat infection for a long, long time.

"The cold". Nasty crud, what you described sounds identical to what has plagued me since this last summer. Everywhere I go, I hear countless people with that cough, very distinct.

It is some crappy stuff. I am not a professional, but I definitely believe it is a bug that they (Dr.s) are letting go. It is resistant to antibiotics, doesn't completely go away and resurfaces periodically.

I am trying multivitamins, Vit. C and oil of oregano, which seems to be slowly making it subside. I have wondered if it is an allergy, one day it seems like it, but, the next day it has a fever.

I have no clue what to do about it and my Dr. can not seem to fix it either.

Praying the little ones become well quickly.

I hope they feel better soon.

I also think there's something going around that is resistent, I've been sick since the end of September of this year, also coming and going with a fever, some days I will start to feel better, then wham, same if not worse. Just finished antibiotics and steroids -- no improvement.

Praying for your granddaughters to be well soon.

has she gotten a second opinion?my son would of died as an infant if I hadnt have come to the conclusion that Drs are not God and dont know everything. I would see if the older one could get her tossils and adnoids out, my 2nd son did this and is on a allergy nose spray and his runny nose and cough of a year has gone away and his appetite is much better finally gaining weight.

Do they go to school or daycare? we changed schools systems this year and my 4 kids have been sick more than their entire life like their are more germs here or something.

Soooo many things at work here. As a child, I had tonsillitus almost as much as I didn't, and it followed me into adulthood (didn't have them taken out). When I had my wisdom teeth removed, the tonsillitus disappeared. Haven't had it since. Also, asthma/allergies/bronchitis seem to walk together so that also could be a distinct possibility. My mom fought bronchitis & pneumonia since I can remember and now has COPD to complicate it. Upper respiratory conditions are not to be taken lightly because they can become deadly very quickly. I would take these babies to a pulmonary specialist ASAP! My daughter lost the upper part of one of her lungs a couple of years ago to ??? She was a smoker, but they said it wasn't cancer. Just the lung had gotten weak (she had pneumonia when she was 6 months old) and collapsed...4 times in 3 months! So, they went in, scraped the outside of the lung, and let it adhere itself to her ribs so it wouldn't collapse again as well as removing the top corner of the lung. They say this is one of the most painful types of surgery there is. She says she really gets breathless when the humidity, heat etc. get too high. Again...I wouldn't hang around with pediatricians...I take them to an upper respiratory/pulmonary doc. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

My infection pill cocktail includes Vit D3, Vit C, oil of oregano, and garlic oil. When the kids are snotty, I make them do saline spray 3-4 times per day, and it helps clear them up. I do it as well. We get new bottles after each round. They both take allergy medicine when they're with us and when either of them is feeling sickly, I give them Vit D3 (they normally just get a kid multi-vitamin).

I also keep a pot of water boiling on the stove with eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils added. I don't measure amounts, I just put in enough that I can smell it, and keep refilling it.

I plan to order the oregano oil soon. Hear it is very good at killing all kinds of things. I am just learning about using oils. Other than tea tree oil, that I have had for several years now.

What brand of oils do you buy, CG ? I got lavender from DoTerra, then another brand. The other one stinks ! The DoTerra is so expensive, though.

I keep having sinus issues again. Have had no problem for about 10 years, then bam ! Keep getting sinus infections and daily pain, and my ears are stuffy. Had CT scan. Showed nothing. I am going back to the ENT again this week.

I have been adding a drop of tea tree to my sinus rinse. Maybe oregano is better, I don't know.

People hear also have that cough. I have it some from sinus drainage.

Hard to function when a person feels rotten all the time.

my opinion for what it is worth is that they may have allergies. My niece at 8 months of age was in the hospital with bronchitis. They had to deep clean her room and get rid of anything that would harbor dust or mold. She grew out of it thank goodness but if there are any allergies, they would keep the children from getting completely well. Any kind of dust, smoke, etc will aggravate until their systems have time to completely recover. Just no more symptoms doesn't mean they have recovered, only that there are no other symptoms.

When I was a kid I got really sick. I had flu followed by a nasty cough that would not go away. I

was sick for months. Our doctor ran tests and prescribed various medicines but nothing worked.

Finally summer arrived and I was out in the sun all day every day. I got well. I know this is not the

time of year for sun but maybe if the girls can get some fresh air and Sun it could help.

I buy the cheapie essential oils from Natural Grocer's (Vitamin Cottage) here in town. I've never tried the more expensive ones that you have to go through an individual to get.

And this may or may not be worth checking into for you: When I went gluten-free, I went from 10-13 sinus infections and 2-3 bouts of bronchitis a year to no sinus infections for several years, and 2 in the last 2.

Try taking them off all dairy producst for a few months and see if they improve. A dairy allergy can be at the root of all kinds of upper respiratory and lung problems. My family knows this from much experience! It can also be a cause of bedwetting.

Yeast breads don't help either.

You can always try and old wives tale trick and cut an onion and put next to their bed. It is supposed to attract the bacteria. I can't say if it works, I have just hear this all my life.

Katmom, I used to have tonsilitis at least once a month when I was growing up. I finally had my tonsils out at 15; that was no fun! Please encourage their mom to try the dairy free. Most people just ignore me when I say that but those who have tried it all report improvment. DH used to have allergies and asthma-type response when he would mow the grass, etc. Within 3 weeks of going off ALL diary, he no longer had symptoms of asthma and has never since. That's been about 25 years ago. I had repeated sinus infections that required doctor visits and medication. I have not had any since going off dairy.

Dairy free is truly an option. Lots of children have had ear infections due to the yeasty growths that come from dairy and when they omit the dairy and use Acidophilis, things clear up. We're not milk drinkers but I do use powdered milk, evaporated milk, and shelf stable milk for cereals, hot breakfast cereals as well as some baking etc.

See if your library has Herbal Antibiotics: natural Alternatives for Treating Drug Resistant Bacteria by Stephen Harrod Buhner. If not you can get it at Amazon. There's 2 versions of it. The 2012 is much more detailed. It lists remedies for most common ailments (9 remedies for strep depending on the strain) and how to prepare them for use. Onion, garlic and ginger are 3 of the big foods for immunity and healing.

If someone in the family has strep, it can be passed back and forth from person to person. Some people get it but don't show symptoms (kind of the Typhoid Mary thing). If one person has strep, everyone should be tested. In addition, all eating utensils should be sanitized.
