Dang, gotta find a good Santa smily.

We....... are not decorating.... well sort of. We put up the tree at MIL's, wreaths, and ornaments. She will, if she hasn't already, get us presents. However, she has stated over and over, "Don't get me anything." Yeah, right, like that is going to happen. (Maybe, we shouldn't, she would never say that again. LOL)

In our house, little mouse is out, with his little cap. The other two are climbing the shelves in plain view. They are porcelain. :happy0203:

The neighbors are decorating outside. We will not. It's OK, I won't have to take down all the decorations here.

We've gotten one card already. It is sitting on a table top waiting for more to join it. I have not sent my cards yet... another thing on the ToDo list. :grinning-smiley-044:

What have you already done? Decorations? Presents? Cooking? Planning for a big event or hiding out?

I have to do what cards I have, wish I could have done more for others this year but it's been a challenging year just on basics , so I was just glad to get some chocolate chips at half off about and a small boneless ham, as I have enough side dishes to add to it, for Christmas dinner.

I wish my radio reception could find a good football team of some of the bowl games to listen to as my tv cable is now defunct and obsolete to the apartment. I would like to listen to some games.

Otherwise will try and make up some baked goodies to share with my friends down the street and A who lives across the street if she is home when I stop by with them.

Mostly just watching a lot of christian oriented movies on netflix, instead of tv , in the evenings here. I am enjoying that. There are a bunch out there from the last few years that are really good!

.

Also puttering with my writing. Nothing real determined though. Have too much to do since there is no one to share chores with. At least I have the energy to work a bit more on this place again. I am so grateful I feel better in general, physically. ( Going to ignore mid back that is acting up, when I say this as I hope that resolves itself. ) Trying to get more walking in , but the sidewalks were cruddy with ice and slick spots already , so need to get the treadmill folded down.

Staying in more frequent touch with my son right now..... waiting for confirmation that DIL is doing well and BABY is doing well in the womb...... happiness over that is my gift, that he is eager to share with me. Once I know the sex , then I can get their color choices for anything I will knit for the child .... I sure hope she isn't going to need a lot of pink. I despise pink clothing, lol. Sorry, just can't do it if I can help it. There are many nice choices and blends out there now....... I don't mind mixing it with other colors or white of course, but hopefully they will go more colorful or tropical or mild creams and such.

They will need stuff by June next year as the due date is late June. So I am looking forward to being able to do a few nice things by then. By then my knitting should be more than adequate for any of that.

My second brother finally joined facebook. He is such a hermit. I should tell him about this site. I think he would like it. He is very much an out of doors type and I believe has to manage a household by himself and can stretch a dollar. Independent as always, it was good to make suggestions of relatives and a few of the old neighborhood kids that my other brother did find first. It is the one way I have of contact for him at this point and I am grateful. Its been too many years.

I stopped decorating a long time ago. I did it when there were 3 of us here but now it's just me so I don't bother. I don't miss it either. It was a hassle moving furniture around and dragging out boxes etc. For me...there is nothing sadder than a tree with no presents under it so I get to skip that part too. When there were 3 of us here plus the dog, there was plenty of stuff under it. If I had a dog I might put up a little table top one though. :grinning-smiley-044: Love dogs and over buy.

I always tell my son not to get me anything and I really mean it. I don't want anything and I don't really have room for much else. But I realize that sort of makes him feel bad about not giving his mom something. Especially when I give him money or a gift card. A couple of years ago he surprised me with a Kindle. My best gift EVER. This year I put in my request for a special book. A real book not a one Kindle. I know he will get it for me. I'll probably buy myself something practical like some water bottle stands I've been looking at on Amazon. Or maybe a police scanner. I have 2 charities that I donate to. I need to get those checks in the mail this week. Also about 20 Christmas cards I still have to get made out.

I'm not sure what son's other plans are yet. Sometimes we get together on Christmas Eve and sometimes Christmas Day. I'm not sure what I'll make for dinner. I'll ask son what he would like. It's usually a big pot of beef and noodles or chili. Or ham sandwiches with sides. He'll come over, we'll exchange gifts, eat a bite and watch a little TV, I'll give him leftovers and he'll head home. There will be about 6 phone calls. Nothing real exciting when you don't have kidletts around.

It's just me, my grown up son and a hooligan Cat now, so we just have a tree, although whether that will survive the Cat is debatable.

I no longer give presents to any adults expept my son, just the kids and I haven't sent cards for several years, I donate the money to charity instead.

We celebrate quietly eat too much and generally slob out.

We will be traveling to Az. this year,so things have been busy here.

Gifts for our family are ready to be mailed and delivered. We were out from Thursday last through Sunday at Christmas related functions (all with meals included and we had even declined two more events on those days). There will just be the school Christmas concert to attend before we leave.

My efforts have been entered around getting our books done up for the accountant. Dh wants to know how much we need to pay on the business side of things. Then of course there are personal taxes too.

Travel arrangements ie care for pets, extra food stocked for them, adequate housing for them during our absence, insurance needs, updating our emergency travel boxes, updating our wills, truck maintenance, arranging bill payments, making endless lists, packing to be done, more Christmas related visiting to be done, yada yada yada........

We had our photos done this year, so some are going in cards that I haven't bothered to send out in the past. Our Grands don't see us often so the photos were really for them.

There isn't any decorating happening except for the mess of cards and wrapping I haven't cleaned up yet. We won't be getting gifts either, our trip is it. We are on the down side of the hill as far as the work involved. I just really want the house tidied up, after this last bit of neglect. Looking forward to more Christmas carols IN A CHURCH, and not the stores.

We did made our regular donation to the Humane Society. I always like giving that gift the best.

I haven't decorated since MrWE2 and I got married...don't have the room! But boy do I miss it :-( I've already told him when we get to the Roost my decorating begins again!!! For Easter I put out Easter-type arrangements, yellow-spring colored place mats on end tables and kitchen table, burn spring-scented candles and put spring color linens on the bed etc. For summer I enjoy the summer colors, for autumn I enjoy the fall colors, for Christmas I put out the reds & greens etc., and for New Years I put out the "bling" :-) Soooo missing that part of my life. As for kids...daughter doesn't give us the time of day and has taught her kids to treat us the same way. She told me about 3 years ago "I've taught my kids not to expect anything from anyone except me and "......" :-( She's so prideful that I often wonder if her life is as "wonderful and perfect" and she'd like everybody to believe. Son is old enough (and has no children) that he doesn't expect any Christmas gifts and we don't expect anything from any of them. We have a couple of very close friends that we always find some sort of little gift to them for Christmas and they usually do the same. This year I crocheted a white pancho with gold roses on the shoulder for her and am currently crocheting an alpaca neck warmer/scarf for him. Most of our friends and us usually just celebrate birthdays etc., with get-together meals etc. where we can just "relax and be with each other". Mother and my dad & his wife "have everything" so we spend some time with them that we don't normally get to spend...taking a plate of food to mother and a trip to where dad and his wife live for a few hours ... if the weather permits. We spent the afternoon with them Sunday "just in case" we can't get down closer to the holidays. Got our blackeyed peas etc., ready for New Years day dinner though!

If the weather holds...we'll take our annual Christmas Lights tour with our mugs of hot chocolate & something to nibble on. Some in our town really go all out! Then on Christmas day we're planning to take a hike in the woods and just be thankful that we have our health and our Lord's sacrifice on our behalf.

DH and I brought up my folks' tree from basement...with my dad's supervision. He couldn't do it this year due to back strain and his chiro [DH of course!] has been on him about not abusing it. We'll be there for Christmas day but in January, my brother/niece will arrive for a second celebration. Airline tickets MUCH more reasonable then. We'll be doing half in Dec and half in Jan.

I have lights up in bedroom and across living room logs. I LOVE Christmas lights! Esp. the BRIGHT LED colors.

:happy0203: Excellent Mt_Rider! Bet they are beautiful.

Most of our neighbors are all decked out. One neighbor had a Christmas party the night before last. We were sitting on the porch swing listening to the games they were playing. Earlier in the day around noon, I heard one of them say, "...I have it set at 400, do you think that will do?..." :cook:

The cookies and cornbread are made and the prime rib roast is 'rubbed' and smoked. Packing for the trip will start today. I am checking off things on my list, but at the same time, adding more to it .

I have to get a few things done yet, but, hope to be all done by tonight. Just some candy to make and some Apple Bread.

We will be going to one of my nephew's for Christmas Eve and then be staying home Christmas Day. Right now it looks like it will be just the 3 of us for Christmas Day and then our son and Grandson will be coming over the weekend after the 1st.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.

My goats have just been invited as guests to a Live Nativity on Christmas Eve. That certainly puts another activity into my week! But I love interacting with children and animals....and this is a "petting zoo" too. Only my hornless goat will be petted. My herd leader can stand to the side and be regal.

Hmmm...I think I finally have all I need for peanut brittle....so hope my brain can clear enough to do that today. Pretty ambitious after losing sleep from 4-7am to a sinus headache. But then I slept deeply from 7-9am and had to run to move vehicles for our friend to plow out our driveway. :imoksmilie:

Took gift bags to mother and son; cooked corned beek, diced turkey ham and a small loaf of soudough bread. Got the cinnamon rolls done and the oven cleaned today (they outgrew their pan and some of the raisins jumped ship :-) . Tomorrow we'll go pay real estate taxes :-( , then Christmas eve we'll do the lights and Christmas day we take a hike! Now...heading for the shower!

Sounds like everyone has a plan.

Loading up the car and heading for TX. House watch and alarms are set.

This year, I feel a little out of it. Did not send cards, did not decorate, did not buy anything but some food. Finances are so tight, it was not prudent. MIL will get a small box of her favorite chocolates and that is it. I tried to think of something I could make for her, but she has everything she wants and needs.

We heard a news article on the radio saying, ".... it has been clinically proven... that hugs are almost better than the flu shot... " So, we've been saying to each other, "I need my flu shot" :hug3: It is fun and comforting, even if it is not true. :happy0203:

Shoot! Came home with groceries this week. Began to melt choco chips for peanut chocolate clusters and..... I kept staring at the can of milk. I specifically purchased milk for the recipe....sweetened condensed milk. The sloshing about within the can had me thinking: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE??? :scratchhead:

<_< Wrong kind....it was Evaporated canned milk, of course.

......going to try Recipe #2 instead.

MtRider :sigh: ...got four cans of EVAP and none of Condensed. Sheesh!

Just add "a lot" of powdered sugar to your evaporated milk girlfriend, and you'll have pretty much what you're after! :-)

Just finished up (and it's cooled to cut) a successful batch of my milk bread in my big cast iron "chicken" fryer. After it cooled and we each had a side for the crunchy "cook's privilege" I cut it in half and it will make two very nice loaves of bread for us...especially for Christmas dinner :-) Sending you each an e-loaf of your own :-)

Oh yum...that looks so good, WE2. ....uh, REALLY? I can fix the Evap into Sweetened? Cuz otherwise DH is going shopping again! :shopping:

DH and I did try the peanut brittle and it worked well! We haven't done candy before so a few times we're  aiiiee....is THAT supposed to happen? But it came out good. Made a second batch right away so I'd remember how and we prepped better. Measured out the butter/vanilla, baking soda so it could be thrown in quicker. :happy0203:

Poor Cat...hope you feel better! Unfair to be sick on holidays. :(

Glad you checked in, Annarchy! :) You have a good time with the family....human and furry. Your menu sounds wonderful!
