Trudy
I'm pretty sure that I read on here before that some of you froze tomatoes for canning sauces later. Do you just wash. put whole unpeeled tomatoes in bags and freeze. I have been looking for the posts about an hour, and can't find it, so can someone please tell me if I am right? I just took out 9 quarts of tomato juice, but i need a quicker way to save them for later, because i have boxes of other vegs. that need to be canned also. Thanks for the help. Link to comment
Cat
Hi Trudy! I just brush off any obvious dirt and put them straight into my freezer. When they're frozen, I put them into grocery-type plastic bags rather than the ones I have to pay for. You can't use them like fresh ones, but when you thaw and cook them down they taste the same. Plus you get all that moisture in the air when you could actually need it, during the winter months. Good luck with all you're doing!! Link to comment
themartianchick
I wash mine and put them in freezer bags. When I take them out to make sauce, the skins slip right off. Link to comment

themartianchick
My mom taught me that... She doesn't can anything but she does freeze a lot of stuff. I'm always asking her about what stuff needs to be blanched first, etc... Link to comment
Trudy
Thanks yall. I just found the posts. I'm not too good at manuvering around our new forum. I know how to open the new content, but once I open it and it disappears, I don't know how to find the posts again to read any responses! I miss you guys and hope I can catch up on everything soon. Cat
Trudy, if you look at the top of this thread, up to your very first post with your question, you'll see a button over it on the right that says "Watch Topic". If you click on that, you will be notified of any replies... by email if you have it set up that way, or with a pop-up here when you log in, if you set it up that way. If I were you, I'd just try it and see if you get a notice in your email - that's the email you signed up with, I believe, not your "Private Conversations" here. Or maybe you'll see a notice when you come back next time. I'll try to reply again if you want a test after trying it. I'm having a very difficult time posting right now because my computer is down with a bad motherboard, and I'm using borrowed laptops (home or DD's house). I can help you better in setting things up when (if?) my guys fix my computer later this week. Waiting for a motherboard in the mail, and then for a "repairman" DH or DS. Link to comment
