Can you eat the fruit from a Bradford Pear tree?

Recommended Posts

We have several of these at our home..is there any way to use the pears? They're tiny and pretty hard right now..if they are edible, when should they be picked?

here's the Homestead answer....................................

YES!

unlike other fruit like apples you don't have to spray pear trees in order to be able to eat the fruit.

It sounds like your fruit is just to small now to eat, wait until they are bigger , but not 'mushy', and they will be fine.

Pears are a good one to can so you will be able to enjoy them in the wintertime.

Bradford pear trees do not bear fruit it does in deed produce fruit but they are small (marble sized) and brown.

The Bradford pear tree is known scientifically as Pyrus calleryana. Bradford pears are quick-growing deciduous trees that reach approximately 50 feet high when mature. They produce white flowers and small, inedible fruit.

Um, these do have pears on them, they're only about 1.5 inches tall..they also have the brown marbles on them. But they most definitely have little pears on them.
