A Remarkable Happy Note to end a Good Day ..

Dennis Hall spends much of his time monitoring Lake Champlain.

"Normally there's no noise. It was different. Different. And so clear," said Hall.

The Panton man is looking for a legend. He made headlines in 1985 when he claimed to spot the lake creature, known as Champ.

"Something made the noises and it's totally amazing," said Hall.

Since then, he's been chasing Champ trying to record the mythical monster's every move.

"Not hearing anything like I heard before," said Hall

And now, Hall has teamed up with Katy Elizabeth, who runs the organization, "Champ Search."

During recent surveillance, they say they made another surprising discovery.

"I was in total shock," said Elizabeth.

A beluga whale in Lake Champlain.

"I was listening with the hydrophone and all of the sudden I started hearing 'eekeeekeek,' like monkey noises and it was strange and then clicking like 'click, click, click,'" said Elizabeth.

The team used underwater audio testing equipment and claim they documented a rare vocalization used by only a handful of species to find food. None of which should live in a fresh water lake.

"Everything is pointing toward belugas or some other animal, not native to this lake that is in here feeding," said Hall.

And Hall says he even saw something big, white and torpedo shaped nearby.

Reporter Darren Perron: Could this be true?

Bill Ellison: Well, it could be true. I think it's a highly unlikely scenario.

Elliston works at Echo Lake Aquarium and Science Center in Burlington. He says what Hall mostly likely spotted were sturgeons, similar in shape with bright white bellies.

He doubts a beluga whale could live in Lake Champlain. The closest any have officially been seen in recent years-- the St. Lawrence Seaway near the Richelieu River. It connects to Lake Champlain. But Elliston says it would be a difficult migration through canals.

"Not only would they have a hard time getting here, but they'd have a hard time living here. They live in salt water. I think it's really highly unlikely that a beluga whale could swim up the seaway, up the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain without being noticed by anyone," said Elliston.

The mouth of the Otter Creek dumps into Lake Champlain. It is exactly a half mile from this point upstream where the researchers got their readings.

And the readings were taken about 8 miles from where a fossil remains of a beluga whale buried in clay soil in Charlotte. It was unearthed during railroad construction in 1849 and is now on display at the University of Vermont's Perkins Geology Museum.

The fossil was left behind when this area was an extension of the Atlantic Ocean until the glaciers receded and the land rebounded. Whales and other sea creatures were trapped and died, but some species managed to adapt like Atlantic salmon.

"As far as I know belugas can't do that," said Elliston.

There's also a recording captured by the Fauna Communications Research Institute in 2003.

A group of scientists searching for signs of Champ for the Discovery Channel recorded what sounded like a beluga whale as well.

"It's interesting. If there are belugas in the lake, things are changing," said Hall.

Hall says evidence is stacking up that something's in the water and he now believes Champ may have company.

"Which is more far-fetched-- champ or beluga? Something is making the noise," said Hall.

Champ Search is sending their recordings to an expert for analysis.

( Champ is our nickname through the decades for a lake monster like the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. )

Hudson River also comes up north from NYC, Lake George and then Lake Champlain, old navy ships used to be on this lake, it is large, long and quite deep in many areas. This is the first I have learned there is a history of beluga's being in these waters ... I wonder if they do adapt to fresh water after all in some circumstances? This is what research is all about, to figure stuff like that out.

They did mention the St Lawrence River system and I need to see how that is up to my north here.... does it really create an access that way into Lake Champlain? I need to look all that up to have a better understanding.

This little note to end my night just makes me smile to wonder about it.

Interesting! Reminds me of the prophecy of the Eskimo Maniiḷaq (mah-NEE-luk).

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN0CJqpVDEA

One of his prophecies was that when a whale (he may have said a big fish but I think he said whale) would swim up the river to the village of Ambler, then the world would end. He predicted many things that happened such as white men coming to his area in "boats" that flew in the air and landed on the water, etc. Very interesting to read about. You can google his name and find a lot about him.

I think it's fascinating! I just watched it again and was reminded of the other end time signs he mentioned: something being discovered in or near Ambler that white people would consider very valuable and two consecutive seasons where the snow will reach the tops of the spruce trees. Those along with the appearance of the whale in the river near Ambler would certainly be a shocker, wouldn't it?

Hmmm, snow to the tops of the spruce trees..... now that does worry me... and Al, the Infamous, will still holler Global Warming! Lol. Could not resist......

Actually, a few winters back we had record snow fall here but Haarp was messing with our weather, they still have been , and they definitely are right now. I saw stuff on radar thats indicative.....I think we should let nature just run it's course. They are not helping drought areas with it, instead they create enough rain that way to make things flood or ruin our harvests,

I do not doubt it is possible either naturally , once in a while or with these methods if enough factors can be enhanced and perhaps this winter that would be possible.

Still, if that happens I will just go build myself a nice snow block igloo, it would be easier to heat. Because there is no way we could keep the building clear. LOL.

Come spring, well......... floods, you say? Yea, think of the magnitude that would involve over a continent's drainage and regionally if we got over 50 feet of snow in snowy regions... This is where preps come in handy and an ability to climb a mountain........ and skills for winter camping so you are sheltered, dry and warm and can have fire. ( dead wood limbs from high up trunks should be collected, or you dig out someone's wood pile if they no longer need it ( add in sinister grimace here) ..... and then you watch what you think of as your world, float on by when the melt begins for a month or so. And water and junk together , flowing is amazingly horrific in the damage it will do.

That is what I would do...... there would be so many snow storms all our regular and extra resources including manpower would be wiped out. Make sure you have snow shovels and a free board to grab to clear snow with. Snow shoes too. Really sucks when you fall through a 12 foot drift spot and have to figure out how to get out.

Makes me laugh uproariously thinking about it.... but hmmm, and do you think people would understand it as a warning of things to come? If they even manage to cope with it and its affects over time?

That much freakin snow,,,, my my..... when people were more primitive and even biblical folks were closer to the earth, I think this is why the Lord said such and such signs will come........ well they are, from every culture there have been signs for years now, and we can see by the geopolitical things going on....... something seriously bad is happening, economics too..... natural stuff like geo stuff, volcanoes, all the shifting ( yes, go see where the North Pole has gone.. yes, it is shifting and badly)... and the actual information from the Space.com/ NASA/ Space Weather official information and how even the things occuring in space affects the earth ( yes, it does) ... like magma beds under the crust, it's intriguing....

And while I see something odd occurring and it's cool to know about a beluga whale showing up in Lake Champlain and there is fossil evidence from eons ago they do this... but it's happening again...... it is good to listen to the legends, because all of the original people including God's own were told things.....

One of the signs of the Native Americans has concluded, at least Five Albino buffalo have now been born......... and that's when things really start ......

As for the Mayan Calendar stuff I do believe it is a 'marker' but we read it wrong, we have started a new era..... even western science has decided we entered officially into a new era ( like we call the Pleistocene) , those era's.... I don't have a list of the names......but we have now cycled into a new one. It's like subconciousness is being raised even if we call it how we now may see it in the vernacular we are used to in the civilized tech terms....... what is important is to realize it's actual impacts , and I think those of us who prep are more aware, at least at an instinctive level and we choose to not ignore it.

I sort of sum it up, please forgive me, as the Gods That Be are getting really tired of what humans are doing to each other once again and that we STILL HAVENT LEARNED ... so they will be having to deal with it ..... and nature is one way to give signals and ways to clean the house out, along with the evil around that is boiling away.

At least some of us recognize some of it. Let's hope we can get through stuff. Hopefully some of us make it safely through and can re-establish things more properly again. Yep, it's bound to rock us some, but it's important.

Snow as deep as a spruce tree, well that would be something!

I think we get our worst weather in February too. We had our first snow last week, only got an inch but surrounding areas got 6, 8 and 10 inches.

http://firsthandweather.com/396/firsthand-weathers-final-2014-15-winter-forecast/

I'm in Region 8 and he gives this forecast:

Region 8: This region is the area that I am most concerned about for this upcoming winter. We have a situation where the pattern is going to favor a lot of precipitation due to El Nino and a very cold pattern due to warmer waters in the northeastern Pacific and much higher than average Siberian snow cover, which will likely be responsible for a negative Arctic Oscillation. If all of this comes together, this region could have a winter that they have not experienced in decades. I put most of this region in much-below average temperatures and much-above average precipitation. Places that typically do not get snow and ice will get it, and places that typically only get small amounts of wintry precipitation will get a lot. I expect a very active and wet pattern across the southern states, and I expect the polar jet and the southern jet to interact in a way that could bring about a “snowmageddon” kind of winter along the East Coast. I expect numerous East Coast and Southeast winter storms. Places even as far west as the Southern Plains including Dallas will also likely be hit hard.

I hope to be as prepared for this as possible. Better to be ready than not!

They do say NE and Ohio River valley will get lots of snow, more than most winters, this year. Not sure about NE coast but , likely as they have lake affect along the ocean's edge. They claim it won't be as long during the cold polar vortexes like it was last year but our temps are rapidly staying much below what is normal for my area already. In general , then they talk another -15 degrees when the polar vortex that is currently starting to move down into midwest moves this way into NE / upstate NY , as well as it the lower midwest and SE states down to FL. Waiting to see what precipitation that Alaska storm ( Nuri, will bring by the time it gets here, if it tracks like original predictions I saw earlier this week. )

But so far forecasts don't suggest much. December is going to start up a bit heavier storms...... but this one is an odd duck , along with the polar vortex , which affects my region come Thursday/ Wed night I believe. Just sort of curious to see what affects will happen.

I sure hope we hear more about this beluga whale. Even the Bigfoot searchers are interested in it, from what I could tell on FB. Lots of folks wondering.
