Daelith
All of my tomatoes seem to have anthracnose....those black spot/bruises on the ripened fruit. I've attached a picture. Not all are quite that bad. Some only have a couple of spots. Someone told me not to eat them. I've been eating them after cutting the bad spots out and have been okay. But now I'm uncertain. My question to ya'll is are these safe to eat or not? I don't think I'll be canning any of my bruschetta made from them though. This really bums me out. I've been looking forward to making that with my own garden fresh tomatoes. Opinions? Thoughts? Edited July 31, 2016 by Daelith Quote Link to comment
Ambergris
Yes, just cut out the segments infected because the fungus will have reached through them and eaten out the sugar for you. Edited July 31, 2016 by Ambergris Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Oh ...what a tragedy! After tending them up to this stage and anticipating a nice crop! Can't say I've seen this malady with tomatoes tho....so I've no advice for stopping it. Have you tried your county extension agent? Or stopping at some place near you that has good tomatoes. Everyone likes to talk about their garden and someone near you probably has battled this.......hopefully with success they can share with you. MtRider Quote Link to comment
Daelith
Thanks Ambergris! Mt Rider - Everyone around me is fighting blight. That's a given around here it seems. I had seen anthracnose before, but not this bad. If one of my neighbors doesn't have any, I will hit the farmer's market this coming weekend. Quote Link to comment
