Jeepers
I'm finally going to take my computer in for repairs. Every time I start to take it in, it starts acting fine. Then a day or two later it acts up again. Today is the day. It needs a new fan and a good cleaning out. The warrantee ends Jan. 11th. so I'm going to beat it this time. I want to keep this computer because I really don't want Windows 8. So, I'll baby this one along as long as I can. Since it needs parts, it will probably be sent off for who knows how long. I have an ancient spare that I hate but will try to check in with it every day or two. It's finicky though. Quote Link to comment

Jeepers
Just checking in. I got the old laptop chugging but boy is it S-L-O-W. It is so slow it really gets on ones nerves trying to use it. The good one should be back in 2 weeks. It's getting a fan-ectomy. When it comes back the Geek Squad will clean it out and do some tweeking...not to be confused with twerking, that I needed done. The 'Geek' was a little snippy. I use Explorer for everything except the puppy site. I need to use Chrome for that. Compatability issues. He was insistant I stop using Explorer. I don't like Chrome. I'm used to Explorer. And it's my computer! Besides, my computer has a broken fan, not a virus. Pffft. Then, when I get on line my home page is Google. I have eight tabs that show in the task bar that I can use to search different things at the same time, if I want to. The first thing he did, when we turned on the computer, was to reduce the number of tabs that show. He said I didn't need that many! I told him to put them back. He asked if I really need to use that many. Well, yeah, especially if I'm on a couple of sites doing price comparisons etc. Pffft. My computer. Whippersnapper. The loss of this site, plus the puppies I watch and computer games I had loaded = I am getting some organizing done. So, I'm not too upset over the two week wait. Better go shovel some more coal into this thing so I can check out the forums before it freezes up again. There is no spell check on this thing so don't go by what I wrote but what I meant. Annarchy
(((((Jeepers)))))) Nice to see you, two weeks seems so long. Santa left me some coal I could send you.... LOL. When I use my PC it seems so slow too. But I have to have it and have to use it. (I really appreciate my Mac.) Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Thanks for the offer Annie but I got a few buckets of coal this year too. And I was on my best behavior. Quote Link to comment

Jeepers
@ Jeepers. MtRider "shovel in more coal" Yeah, it's so old it's coal fired. And no smilies for me. Hot diggity...I found them. Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Before we FINALLY found a company that could find their satellite from our valley, dial-up and old computers were my lot in life too. During that time I learned to memorize the code my favorite 'smilies' ..... like: : lol : : wave : : 3027 : : knary: : frozen: : lois: : balloons: : cakeslice: : 24: : laughkick: : bounce: : tapfoot: (without the spaces, of course) Thru many changes and revisions of MrsS site, I keep updating that so that I don't even have to search .....and WAIT for the smilie page to load. So fast & easy. MtRider ..... ....does it say something about me if I can memorize 30 smilie codes but can't remember if I ate breakfast? Jeepers
I got the call to come get my computer today. I figured I'd have to leave it because I needed repair work done on the computer and Geek work done on software issues. I did, so I wasn't surprised or upset. It got a new cooling, heating and fan system. It was so dusty though. And I laughed when I saw it because they uncovered my camera I had taped over. They probably think I'm a nut...if they only knew! Tip of the iceberg. But I got that same little snippy twit that I got the last time. It really burns me up when I know something and then have someone try to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't know a lot and readily admit it. So, when I do know what I'm talking about don't look at me like I'm a total idiot. What really made me mad is every time a Geek works on my computer the Word documents show with an extended code. Such as "Recipe exe..." instead of just "Recipe" It drives me crazy. I tell them and they fix it for me with a few clicks. This guy acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Then he finally said, "Oh, they all have that. It's to show what kind of document it is and you can't change it." I told him I already know what kind of document I made (they are all the same), and I showed him that none of my document show that extended code and the other Geeks get rid of it with a few clicks. He said when I pick it up they will look at with me. GAH, I was so ticked off. It's the way he look at me. Condescending. I really really hope and pray he isn't there when I go pick up my computer. And, I keep getting a pop up that says I'm not running an authentic Windows program. It pops up about every 30 minutes. I tell the Geek and he says it's spam and to ignore it. Every 30 mins...no. So it happened while he was looking at my computer. He says well, it's probably a virus. YA THINK? He needs to get rid of it. Also, all of my Word Documents are blank! I have a lot of Word documents. Long story short, he took my Window/Word info and will go to their website and get it fixed. I tried that and it didn't work for me but they have codes and info I don't plus know how. Plus...I pay for Geek Squad Protection to take care of those things! He isn't doing me a personal favor. The last time I was there he forgot to give me my receipt back and I was only in the parking lot when I noticed. This time he forgot to give me a work order receipt. I had to ask for it. Also wanted to renew my warrantee as it runs out next month. He said he couldn't do it...it has to be done online. Pfffft, we'll see. Okay, I feel better just venting! Tomorrow will be better...if he isn't there. I hope I don't have to hurt the little feller. Quote Link to comment
Annarchy
Hurt him, Mamma. Word document extensions can be turned off with a few clicks. I would need to get on my pc to give the exact instructions. Virus!?!?!? They've gotta fix it AND if your computer is saying the Win OS is not authentic, I would hurt them. They received it with a valid program, there is no reason what so ever, that it should come back without it. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
I agree with Ann...something's fishy here. Perhaps they've loaded it with software that's NOT authentic...on their part! We have our "monster" in the shop because we purchased a pc from some dude who had loaded it with pirated software, so when it crashed he was no where to be found! Now, it's costing us (in payments) $185+ to get it totally cleaned out & re-loaded with new software. Then, we get to go to our thumb drives & cd backups to re-load our favorite programs. We really want our "monster" because it's a pc that few have the privilege of owning! Four cooling fans, a hard drive and memory so big you'd never fill it up, and when you click on a link the web page is there so quick it makes you jump out of your skin! But...make them do what's right! Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Either this Geek is new or he just has a tude. If that dude's got a tude…I got a mood. I’m just about ready to take him down. Oh yeah… he’s goin’ down. I ain’t a skeerd of no stinkin’ pencil neck Geek. Let him roll his eyes one time. One time. I hope he does now. It gave the 'unauthorized' pop up a couple of days before I took it in so I know they didn't do it. But I wonder what all they loaded in while they had it! Probably key stroke recognization. I do have everything backed up so I’m not worried about that. And I have all of the authentications. Ya know, if he even looks at me wrong I’m going to ask for a manager. I’ll educate them on customer service. Especially how to treat the elderly. Mainly, most of us don’t like change and learning new technology every other month. That’s what they get paid for. Just set us up, show us how to use it and then leave it alone. If you fix it, put it back the way you found it. It is my computer. I only know one way to operate it so don’t pull nothing fancy or new because I don’t want to mess with it. Play around with your own computer. Hot dang, I’m getting mad all over again. I wonder if he doesn’t like the term Geek when I used it? That is what they call themselves. The Geek Squad. It even says Geek on his shirt where his name would be. If so, he needs to get over himself. It’s not a derog derau deraw bad name at Best Buy. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Stopped by and paid $20 more on our "monster" pc....every time we do, we're like you Jeeps...seriously riled up about the ignert gkee (I deliberately transposed geek) who is making money out there building pc's that ALL have the same programs on them :-( Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I know how you feel. Mine didn't call today. I thought they would. All they need to do is remove/reinstall Word Student and upgrade it to Word Professional. They have the key cards. Ugh, tomorrow is Saturday and they will be busy and "You Know Who" will probably be there. This store is about 5-6 miles from me but there is another one about 10 miles from me. If I have any more problems I might take it to the other store. I really don't have a problem with the work or the store. Just that one person. It's still under warrantee so I'm not paying. If I was I'd really be ticked off. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
We took ours to an individual fella that used to work for one of the big box pc stores. Guess we'll find our for ourselves if he's as good as everybody says he is. He's very personable and loves to talk to us about our gardening etc., and the importance of eating wholesome food. We're "sort of" keeping him in our vision (as well as his significant other) as someone who would work well in our circle of influence should a crisis occur. Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I finally got the call. I can pick up the computer anytime. I'll wait until tomorrow though. They said they had a heck of a time getting Word to work. Said all of the Geeks worked on it and they had to call corporate and have two different people from there work on it with them remotely. I hope it works more than...remotely. Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Hmmmm...... when your computer confuses Geeks..... Not a good sign. MtRider Hope it's great when they send it home with you! Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
He said they'd like for me to keep in contact with them for awhile to make sure it still does what it should. He said other than Word, it runs and looks brand new. I use Word documents a lot. I'm hoping for the best because I sure don't want to have to buy a new one and I really, really don't want to upgrade to Windows 8. Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
I have the old Word disk and I hang onto it with an iron fist! Every pc we ever have bought, I always load it first thing and make it my default program, even if the pc comes with new versions etc. Also do the same for Print Shop, Paint Shop Pro and Microsoft Publisher. I've worked with them for ions, and will as long as they'll load onto a new pc. I bet you're mighty glad to get your "friend" back! Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Computer is home and so far so good. Except it will take me forever to get it back the way I had it. I don't remember how to do a lot of stuff so I'll just have to stumble around until I find the right button. I haven't figured out how to get my favorites toolbar back on Google, find the other tool bar on Google I had, find the AOL toolbar so I can check my email, find my background picture, figure out how to store Explorer and Chrome on the bottom toolbar, undo the auto align on desktop, it just goes on and on. I'll give me a few days and then yell for Annarchy! Quote Link to comment
