If you want something compelling to think about and discuss with your junior high and older kids try The Wave by Ron Jones. It is a novel and a movie.

GH, I just read some research on this and wow, it is scary bigtime. We are definitely born sinful and corrupt to our very depths. Hope you don't mind my sharing something I read concerning this here. Dr. Phillip Zimbardo's comments at the end are most telling.

Do you own the movie? If so, I'd love it if you'd share a bit of what is in it. I'm not sure whether to get the movie or the book.

Don't own it, have seen it. It's disturbing. It explains very well how people can be and are brainwashed into doing terrible things. That's another problem I have with schools. Teachers are authority figures and what they say must be 'right'. Teachers can take advantage of this. Besides, having been on the inside of the educational system, I know the comments made by teachers when they get together. They cut down the kids they don't like, they talk about the parents, and they do this on a regular basis. Not ALL teachers do this, but from what I saw in the teachers' lounge, it is very common. I gave up eating with them and spent my time in my classroom.
