Hello there! When we moved to WY we (actually my dh) decided the boys would go to ps so I could have a break since the twins were still young and a handful (as if they're ever going to quit being a handful). I agreed since it is his decision and I was glad that the class sizes are reallly small. Right now my oldest son's 5th grade class has 7 kids (just got a new one the other day).
Even with the small class sizes I still have noticed big differences in attitude in my 11yo and my 5yo. My 11yo, of course, wants to run off with friends every chance he gets (which is understandable to a degree but he wants to argue about it when I tell him he needs to stay home occasionally). My 5yo has the habit of saying "my teacher says....." and she's supposedly right about everything.
Anyway, back to my happy dance story, dh found a paper that my son had written for homeschooling (answers to some English questions) and he was saying how wonderful ds' handwriting was and we explained to dh that it was from a year or so ago. DH asked what happened since then that his handwriting has gotten worse and I replied "public school." (Please forgive me if I offend anyone for that remark). Tonight we were talking and I jokingly said "I think we need to homeschool again so his handwriting will improve." Dh said "I've been thinking he needs to homeschool again too!" WHOO-HOO!!!!!! Prayers getting answered is so sweet to witness

Thanks for joining in on the dance! We'll be one of probably two families in town who homeschool. Someone told me the other family will homeschool one year then use ps the next and they think it may be to avoid certain teachers. This is a tiny town so it's possible that's the reason but I'm going to talk to her and get more info about homeschooling in this state and what I have to do.

You've hit on something critically important there. For some families the earlier years of public school seem okay, but it is later when the fruit begins ripening that many parents regret the decision.
A study conducted by Dr. Richard Simonds with Citizens for Excellence in Education found that 98% of children homeschooled from a Biblical worldview keep their faith in Christ after graduating. But a shocking 85% of Christian children sent to public schools for 12 years drop out of church, and do not hold a Christian worldview by high school graduation.

You're so right Evergreen, about penmanship not being a sign of lack of intelligence! My son's typing is great, he's at the top of his class for that!
Necie - anything you do to help your children with learning is homeschooling! I wonder how come they don't have special schools for potty training, etc.! LOL!
