Garden sheds, prep boxes, water barrel supply or gasoline metal sheds, bunker entrances and other outside storage can sometimes be too noticeable or plain old ugly grin

I was trying to figure how to disguise or hide such objects. I found many answers everything from painting the boxes or sheds to match the house to planters and trellises.

Some were hiding in plain view using decorative privacy fences.

One suggestion is to leave the storage out but draw the eye away with splashy color in front or away from it. butterfly bushes and livid color growth. Sunflower plants (duel purpose! smile.gif) are an example.

If your home has brick perhaps a brick half wall or even a brick veneer on the box?

These are all just suggestions and I'm open for more. grin

Wow cookie! You've been working hard this morning!! LOL These are great ideas!! Unfortunately, I'm in an apt and if they find a supply of gasoline we can be immediately evicted (24 hrs to vacate!) Soooo- we won't be storing gasoline right now!! But these are some great ideas to pass along to my parents!!!

Sorry,
Somehow I sliced off part of my message. I was going to say not for apartments, good for suburbia. grin

Some townhouses have space in the back to create storage areas.
Everything is relative.

Any tips on how to hide our well house? It already matches our house, but it is easily recognized here as a well house as many house have them. Most are dried up, so the only idea I have had so far is to allow the grass and weeds to grow up around it making it look unused too.

All fine unless they get close enough to hear the pump, of course, in the even of no power, that wouldn't give them any clue.

Any other ideas are welcome.

Build on to it, to create a playhouse look? Decorate and paint it, add window boxes, etc.

Melissa's playhouse, no boys allowed!

Those are great ideas! Perfect for everyday use and would look nice.

As times get harder and meaner, more drastic measures may be needed.

In a severe prolonged SHTF situation, concealing valuables such as water/gas supply, etc. might be possible by 'hiding it in plain sight'.

When garbage pickups are no longer running, 'twould only be natural for some trash to pile up at nearly every residence...

Even rather large 'trash piles' would not be out of the ordinary...

I would create a 'trash pile' around the treasure that needs to be concealed...adding enough stuff to the pile to do the job well. Totally worthless scrap metals, wood, and whatever else junk you can salvage to make it look realistic enough, while allowing reasonably easy access...

October 29, 2009: I just discovered that my email accounts have been hijacked by a virus...

If anyone gets any emails from me, please delete them. Do not open them. (They will not have been sent by me.)

If my email is hijacked, then possibly my forum accounts and my blog may be also... I am not sure oif this but to be safe, I thought I'd notify everyone of this possibility. If you visit my site, make sure you are running a good antivirus program that is uptodate. I am currently working with blogspot, etc. etc. on this.

pssst... Norton sucks a bag of lemons.

doorway needs to be hidden...

using a frame and trellis ....

|---| --> trellis
|_|_|
|_|_| <-- door and the rest trellis against the wall of building
|_|_|
|___| X <--plant vine here

grow vines .. jasmine, honey suckle, something that stays green year round!

you have trellis on both sides of door so you plant again way to the right of the door. Keep the door trimmed.. even if the plant grows through and keeps the door from opening.. if you can get your nippers through the frame.. it gives you a line to cut.

the trellis door covered in vine will open and close. Just make sure your trellis and frame are heavy enough to handle the weight of the growing vines.

If that is too much work then...

trellis against the wall.. where the door is place a trellis 3 feet forward of the building door.. let the vines grow up and around.

remember that dark brown or dark green or black looks like a shadow.. shadows present a 2D image!

light colors like white cast shadows but do allow for a clearer view or dimension.

I am gonna regret writing all of this on meds! I bet none of this makes sense.. well it does drugged!

In the above photo.. had the wall been painted dark, casting shadows, the eye would be tricked and stop at the lattice. Since it is white the eye sees through the lattice and stops at the wall.

you can see the vines growing through and if there was a needed door our of trellis in front of a storage door.. it would hide your storage.

I got this off of the Urbanist but it's a interesting concept. You could hide something in a electrical box look-a-like. Just an unusual concept that this guy did to *hide* in plain site on a street.

The last view of the three pictures is what he saw from inside his box.
