Here's a new thread that I just started:

...there are some things that can beat smartness and foresight. Awkwardness and stupidity can. The best swordsman in the world doesn't need to fear the second best swordsman in the world; no, the person for him to be afraid of is some ignorant antagonist who has never had a sword in his hand before; he doesn't do the thing he ought to do, and so the expert isn't prepared for him.

dressing out % by age comparing a New Zealand to a Dutch
http://www.msstate.edu/dept/poultry/rabslau.htm

my note:
Dutch The average adult Dutch Rabbit will weigh between 4 to 5 ½ pound

New Zealand near 6 months of age will be close to the 9 lb. maximum.

The Dutch is not a meat rabbit as we are looking for 4-1/2 to 5 pounds by 8 weeks. this means they will dress out to about 2-2-1/2 pounds.

Westie, ya know , minus the rabbit food , those treats would be good for human consumption!

If the links dont work, try searching with keywords in the search button link.

Good info on raising rabbits. There is a PDF version if you want to print it out, look for the link to it on the html page.

Planning to buy 3 or 4 working does and a buck this spring. Will also be looking around some "used" but clean wire housing units. My late husband and I used to raise New Zealand whites and a few Flemish Giants and a few Giant Checkers. Had about 50 working does...kept us busy!!!! But...we lived in country, can't have that many in town.
