Does anyone have an herbal tea recipe that would be appropriate for children for night time? My daughter has started snitching mine when I'm not looking, so I'd like to make up a kid-friendly blend of her own.

Casey, are you looking for something that will soothe and help her sleep? Chamomile is excellent for that and kids can easily handle it if they aren't allergic to those types of flowers. Celestial seasonings has one called Sleepytime which our grandkids love with lemon and honey.

There are several herbs that can be used with children for night time soothing though. Lemon Balm (Melissa) is very good and has a nice taste. Catnip was the traditional one when children had upset stomach or sleeplessness. Mint makes a great bedtime tea and I especially like wintergreen.

Well this isn't exactly an "herbal" tea, but my kids love it.

Russian Tea Mix

1 - "6 quart" canister Tang
1/3 c. Instant Lemon aide
¼ c. Instant tea (I use decaf on account of the kids)
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground gloves

Mix together very well. Store in an air tight container. To use, mix 2-3 rounded teaspoons with cup of hot water.

For a "Tipsy Rueski", add a shot of vodka to the drink (Not recommended for the kids, but Mom might like it!)... wink

Well, soothing and making sleepy would be fine, but not specifically. I'm just wanting something warm she could drink at night when mama has her tea that isn't going ot wake her up.

Chammomile and catnip gets my vote as well. It relaxes but it won't make anyone pass out or anything. It's just a gentle relaxing tea and tastes great alone or with a drop of honey. Both ingredients are also very easy to groww, harvest and dry smile

Catnip has a long history of being a natural sleep aid due to the chemical nepatalactone. http://chemistry.abo...y/aa103001a.htm

QUOTE
Actually, catnip (its biological name is 'nepeta cataria') has been used as a tranquilizer or sedative for humans for centuries. It also has been prescribed for respiratory conditions, as an aid to digestion, and for such disparate conditions as menstrual cramps and toothache, by ancient and modern herbalists, according to this excellent article by HolisticOnline.

I can testify it works great for cramps.

Insomnia, huh? It's 3am and I'm boiling water for it right now.

Rose hips have a tart flavor and add a reddish color to the drink along with vitamin C and a healthy amount of iron. It works well with honey.

Numi makes fabulous teas and although it is not mentioned here They have a Jasmine Green tea called "Monkey King" that is to die for! Jasmine is a natural calmative and little girls may like the fact it is made from flowers. I like to keep the cup under my face for a few minutes and just inhale the jasmine.

That's a start. HTH!
