I did not want to spend the money, but, it was necessary and DH found a smoking deal.

He found a replacement washer & dryer for $125. for both.

Usually not, probably why he was so quick to get me the replacements. LOL That is how he broke his ankel, he was doing a load, when I was at MIL's house, stepped on the edge of the cement twisting it. He said it would have made a good you tube video when the armload of clothes flew up in the air.

OUCH, Annarchy. I hope your hubby's ankle heals up good and soon. Glad you got the washer and dryer!
Well my pinching pennies is actually a gift from my best friend who I consider my sister really. Annie sent me her spare magic jack since I have to buy mins for my cell phone and she even paid this years fee for it and helped me set it up. Boy, feels weird to plug in a regular phone, of which I know Miss Macy will play with the cord and probably make it fall off the little shelf where it is. ( I need a better desk situation here but it's going to have to wait a while!)
So I have set it up with most of my friends numbers and family numbers and the 911 stuff is reset to my address now.
So that was a really nice gift for mother's day.
So now I don't have to buy as many minutes for my tracfone and can lower my monthly cost that way for several months.
Every little bit helps these days!
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

I put water in the half-empty bottles in the shower. My bet is that nobody notices.

My waffle iron arrived yesterday. It makes heart shaped waffles to ensure that my family knows that I love them!

Anyway, I tried it out this morning with a recipe that I found on Paula Deen's website. It worked great! I kept tweaking the recipe until I got them the way that we like them. This should save us a lot of money since I'm just going to make about 100 at a time and freeze them. This morning, I only put 25 in the freezer. Tomorrow, I will try a different recipe to see if we like that better. This sure beats spending $2 to purchase generic frozen waffles that are on sale. I found the waffle iron on Amazon.com for $18. I had tried to get one at a thrift store but the only one that they had looked pretty beaten up. Oh well... This one will still pay for itself rather quickly since we won't be buying anymore waffles and we regularly went through a box per week!

Great find martianchick. I've cooked waffles ahead for years and not only are they cheaper than buying premade frozen in the store but they're also much better tasting. I quintuple my recipe and, like you're planning on doing, make dozens at a time.

I got my waffle iron for a wedding gift almost 45 years ago and it's still going strong.

Do you have a waffle recipe that you like a lot? I had never made waffles before this morning. Even as a kid, mom would make french toast or pancakes...waffles were always made by Eggo! The recipe that I used this morning was a bit heavy for our tastes, though it did work better once I watered the batter down a little. Tomorrow, I was planning to try a yeast-based recipe that was in the instruction booklet.

Actually, I use a recipe out of my Betty Crocker cookbook that I also got as a wedding gift. This old girl seems to just stick with her old things!:curtsey:

I've tried the homemade freezer waffles, but mine never seem to turn out right. It has been a long time, but I am thinking they were limp.

Any tricks?

Thanks, Deerslayer! I might just try them! This morning I was going to try a new recipe, but decided to try some of the ones that I'd frozen yesterday. They were pretty good. They weren't limp since I heated them up in the toaster oven. I will definitely use this recipe again, but I'd like to find the perfect" recipe for me and my family.

I either use the recipe from my Betty Crocker cookbook or the recipe on the back of the Krusteaz bag of pancake mix which I will buy from time to time if the price is right! I also cook extras of both waffles and pancakes and freeze for future use.

As for limpness, we always heat them up in the toaster and this seems to solve the problem!

I bought four gallons of organic milk at almost half price ($2.79 instead of $4.98 - they were close to expiration) and put them in the freezer. Figure as I open one, I'll put a frozen one in the fridge to thaw and hopefully I'll have a steady stream of milk available, and then hopefully I'll be able to continue to stock up on the markdown ones and rarely have to pay full price. I'll only buy organic milk but boy does it get expensive!

I wish I could remember who first posted this, so, I can thank them personally. I always use dishwashing detergent and a wash cloth to clean my dishes well to prepare them for the dishwasher. Lately, I have started using a dime sized dollop of that same dishwashing liquid (Dawn, Joy, Palmolive, etc). in the soap cup of the dishwasher instead of dishwasher detergent. I save $7-$8 per bottle on dishwasher detergent and no spotty dishes. I happen to use Palmolive. I am told you must not use a bleach formula detergent or use too much. A dime sized spot will do you. I did not believe it, either until I tried it.

Now that sounds interesting! I was going to make the home-made dishwasher soap before my store bought bottle ran out, but this would be so much easier. My dishwasher soap cup has 2 sides, one that you close, and one side is open. would you put a dollop in each side?

Score! DH saw a leather couch sticking out of a dumpster. He climbed in with his knife and climbed out with six big (18-22" x 24-30") swatches of upholstery-grade leather, plus a lot of scraps. He said he'd have brought more if he had a car instead of a backpack (and arms) to carry it home in.

What some people throw away!
