My dh gave me a Coleman Camp Oven for Christmas. If anyone is thinking of adding this to your preps, I thought I would pass on the results of our trial today. Our local grocer had Totino's Frozen Pizza 15 for $10. I thought the might be a good "comfort food" for power outages (& we are heading into power outage season here). We set it on top of the wood stove. It only got to 325 degrees and it took 5 minutes extra to cook, but the pizza was done nicely and made a nice lunch for three people. Not bad for free heat & 67 cents! Tomorrow we are trying cookies.

Joyfully,
Cheryl

Good for you biggrin.gif I have a small stove top oven as well and have been using it frequently.

And a while back I started a thread about wood stove cooking over in Pioneer Living. Could you please add any of your experiences there? http://mrssurvival.c...showtopic=31175 I would love some more input because wood stove cooking has become, well ... Ok, I'm completely obsessed Blushing.gif Mother knows this because I keep on PMing her for tips.

SlingMama, You are welcome to post your questions and my replies in the PL forum if you would like. I don't THINK I gave away any big dark secrets LOL. If I find I did I can just go in and edit them though. Edit yours as you like too.

I'd like to see more activity in the PL forum and hope to get some time to start a few threads. We are fast approaching the age of the modern pioneer I believe. A time when we won't necessarily have to go live in a log cabin with a dirt floor and fireplace but certainly a time when it would be wise to learn to take all we now take for granted back to the basics. Then if we have more conveniences when TSHTF we will be pleasantly pleased. biggrin.gif

I decide to post about my stove top oven experiences over in Pioneer Living. Here is the new thread: http://mrssurvival.c...showtopic=32942 I'll also be adding to my Cooking on a Wood Stove thread. Let me tell you, I'm a mama on a mission. I feel like Mother, that one day we'll be called on to become modern pioneers, and I figure trying it out now, when it's not so stressful, will be easier than a SHTF situation.

Oh, and I'm certain I saved my old PMs with Mother from before the site switch. When I get some time I'll put those over in Pioneer Living as well.

If you are using a Coleman stove top (camp oven) for baking on top of your wood stove, add ABOUT 15 minutes to your baking time (depending on your stove temperature).

The Coleman ovens have one shelf and the LARGEST pan you can get in them is 9" (if you are careful putting it in and taking it out).
