Natural Remedy for Pink Eye????

Insurance

Recommended Posts

My family is going through a round of pink eye. It is our second go around with it this year. Ugh! My grandmother told me that washing the eyes with baby shampoo will do the trick, but I was wondering if there was any kind of natural drops that I can buy or make at home? I have read on the Internet that the juice from an Aloe plant placed directly in the eye will also take care of it, but it is hard to that with a toddler. I guess I am looking for an easier way to treat him especially.

Thank you,

Kelly

Boil a quart of water and add a tablespoon of boric acid. Use this as an eyewash several times a day.

This says compresses are helpful, too. And it tells you how to distinguish pinkeye from an iris inflammation.

I had a friend who was in the mission field overseas.

She got pink eye and the ONLY thing she had was some allergy eyedrops and a tube of neosporin. She did the Neosporin twice a day and it worked for her. She couldn't see out of her left eye (the one with the pink eye) due to the heaviness of the petroleum base that Neosporin is, but it cleared it up soon.

Please know that I'm NOT advocating this, but it did work for her out in the middle of nowhere.

breastmilk drops in the eye

I have heard this from several people, but unfortunately, I'm no longer nursing my last baby. If I had known then what I know now, I would have frozen some.

I will be picking up some boric acid at the pharmacy today, and I am printing off this thread to add to my emergency medical notebook.

Thank you all so much,

Kelly

My favorite herbal remedy is goldenseal root tea (not to be confused with goldenseal herb tea, which is made with the aboveground parts of the plant).

Google this herb and you will find that eyewashes made with this tea is famously good for all eye infections, and is especially effective in severe or persistent ones.

(This may be good to know in case a smallpox pandemic rears its ugly head again. Many of those who survived this nasty disease were often permanently blinded by eye infections caused by the horrible pus-filled sores in close proximity to the eyes.)

How do I prepare this and administer it? From what you have said, I am gathering that it is to be put directly into the eye?
