Dh came home from programing radios with a new one that is portable. http://www.weatherradiostore.com/ It's the WR601.

You need to find the frequencies for your local weather service.

Here you go, for the US and its territories: http://www.weather.gov/nwr/nwrbro.htm

The link at the bottom of the page will tell you how to program the S.A.M.E. codes you need for your radio if so equipped.

LOVE my weather radio(s)!
have 2 at home, 1 in van , 1 to carry with us and 2 in BOB bags.
very easy to program and if you move or travel very easy to update as well.
With this years weather you NEED hour by hour weather wherever you are!
:AmishMichaelstraw:
PS we got most of ours at yard sales and second hand shops, but if you do that open the battery case and see if it has dead 'icky' batteries or is the case coated with white powdery stuff. If so pass them by or like I do buy cheap and clean them up before putting in new batteries.
