My cooker doesn't get very hot because it doesn't get enough hours of sun and has partial shade from pine trees on my patio (my only option in a condo). Other than rice or noodles, does anyone know what is safe to cook at such low temps? I've been afraid to try meat and root vegetables like carrots and potatoes don't do very well. Thanks for any help you can give me. I'd love to use it more but not having much success so far.

Betty.... my solar oven has no blockage and I seldom get temps over 200*.... but we cook steaks, hamburgers, potatoes, root crops, soups, brownies and such. Haven't tried bread yet. However, the steaks are SO tender and the potatoes are always. We have it out there about 5 -6 hours, and I really don't think it has to be out there that long but that is when we eat.

I love my solar oven. Hugs.

If you park in the sun, you might be able to use your car's heat for those hours in which your balcony doesn't get sun.
Or you might consider preheating a heavy pot/pan instead of the super-lightweight one you need for pure solar.
And, to answer the question you asked, meringue cookies are supposed to cook for two hours at 200 degrees.
