Here's my concerns [also posted in RURR]
DH's mom and niece (and her family) live on one of the northern islands in N. Carolina, directly in the path of hurricane Irene. His mom recently fell and has a cast on her broken wrist, a slight hip fracture, and is using a walker. She's been convinced by other senior island residents to ride out the storm in her trailer tho she can go next door "if she gets scared". Our niece is due to give birth soon; has two other small children; and navy husband is elsewhere. She might be at the naval hospital after her checkup that was scheduled yesterday. [hopefully, with her other children] MIL and neice are both more experienced with the midwestern tornadoes than the reality of a hurricane. Please pray that they make good choices and for the safety of all those in Irene's path.
As of this morning, despite mandatory evacuation of their county, she's staying with her friends cuz "she trusts them". She's not a good survivor candidate....during or even post-hurricane..if there's no electric, etc. She had surgery on Tuesday for the wrist and they are watching that hip. She didn't know if niece is at hospital or not.
