I'm vexed and anxious so I keep adding to the people who are praying for my relatives. I'm praying for those from MrsS who are in Irene's path too like Zophiel and Kimba. [anyone else...post and we'll add you to our prayers here!!!]

Here's my concerns [also posted in RURR]
DH's mom and niece (and her family) live on one of the northern islands in N. Carolina, directly in the path of hurricane Irene. His mom recently fell and has a cast on her broken wrist, a slight hip fracture, and is using a walker. She's been convinced by other senior island residents to ride out the storm in her trailer tho she can go next door "if she gets scared". Our niece is due to give birth soon; has two other small children; and navy husband is elsewhere. She might be at the naval hospital after her checkup that was scheduled yesterday. [hopefully, with her other children] MIL and neice are both more experienced with the midwestern tornadoes than the reality of a hurricane. Please pray that they make good choices and for the safety of all those in Irene's path.

As of this morning, despite mandatory evacuation of their county, she's staying with her friends cuz "she trusts them". She's not a good survivor candidate....during or even post-hurricane..if there's no electric, etc. She had surgery on Tuesday for the wrist and they are watching that hip. She didn't know if niece is at hospital or not. :banghead: She does not have high functioning in the best of times and..... Oh God, take this anxiety and this burden of concern and lighten my load this morning!

 • I'd like to add my grandma to the prayer list. She's on Cape Cod, and several days ago, Mom offered to buy a ticket for her to fly down here, where things won't be as bad. Of course, Grandma refused, going to stick it out on the Cape. She's getting on in years, so I'm very concerned about her situation . . .

It's a dead giveaway you don't belong, you always gotta be tidy. Don't pay anybody in advance. And don't ride in anything with a Capasan-38 engine, they fall right outta the sky!" --Serenity

I would like to add my wife and daughter. They are in New York on a three day trip before my daughter goes off to college in Chicago. They were supposed to fly home Sunday morning but I do not think they will be able to.

Thanks
Mike

Praying.
Add Marci to your list please. She is close to time to deliver and may end up with an emergency c-sec if that baby doesn't turn soon. (Daughter of a very good friend.) On the coast at the naval base.

CGA, your Marci and my neice might be roomies....

Lord, You hear our prayers for these loved ones. We who sit far across the country are helpless to DO with our hands. But with our spirit we cry out to Your compassion and mercy and miraculous intervention in these cases. Our miniscule attempts are nothing compared to Your vast power and love. We're on a hard vigil this day...and into the following days. Give us the strength to be prayer warriors on behalf of those surviving this storm.

A friend found this excellent storm tracking site. It is immediate, interactive progress. Hit the + sign to GREATLY enlarge till you see the town/roads where you want to keep vigil this day. You will need to drag the screen around to view different areas.

I discovered my brother, as anticipated, is *just* outside the projected area of involvement. He'll see rain and wind but only the tail-feathers. My parents appreciated that news. :amen: and Thank YOU!

The eye is getting close to the northern islands....... I lost the website for MIL's county last nite. Likely they've been without power for a while.....

BUT THANK YOU, GOD!!!! Mz Irene is down to a Category One. :amen:

She's still a hurricane....she's still massive so the beating she's dealing out will last longer. Does it seem to last an eternity to those who are hunkered down listening to the wind trying to tear their roof off?

I was in Hurricane Iniki in Hawaii long ago. It seemed like an eternity to this mom who had a DD at college on an island a LOT closer to the eye. Especially when that island stopped broadcasting..... The silence, tho expected, was SO omminous.

Maui wasn't directly hit but we still had sailboats on the highway and lost the road to the other side of the island. I had sand blown thru the louvered windows.....thot I could nearly see it blow in one side of the house and out the other. Later I went down to the warf and, being an experienced sea kayaker, stood with my mouth dropped literally open. Literally. I've 'surfed' waves with kayaks many times. I saw these massive waves "eat" the warf in huge chomps. I will never forget that....and this was after the wind had died down.

Heavenly Father, there are frail human beings down here in fear....terror?....right now. Please place Your comforting hand upon them. Show them Your nearness...no matter what eventuality You have for them this day. If they know You, they will feel Your loving touch even amidst the chaos of the storm. If they do not, perhaps in this hour they will turn to You as never before in their lives. We ask for Your mercy....most especially for our loved ones.

I just heard from MIL out on the N. Carlolina shore. Despite the eye of the Monster Irene practically going right over them, they have restored electricity already. :o That is a big surprise to everyone. She reports that it was a wild ride but not a lot of damage that she can see from her home. Yes, she DID ride this out in her trailer. Sheesh! I believe the Hand of God was over that island cuz.... much worse results were expected by everyone. They had been very dry tho and weren't dealing with already soggy ground. But... OK, I'm baffled but thankful that God sustained her in His way. We were her first call so she hadn't checked with our niece yet.

THANK YOU ALL for your participation in this event by prayers!!!!!! :grouphug:

How are the rest of you? Zophiel? Let us know about Grma.

Mike? Your wife/DD????

CGA....Marci and the baby?

Kimba....and all the family?

Anyone else in the path?

Thanks for the prayers, y'all. Grandma was mostly missed. Cape Cod got some of the wind, but most everything went west. To my little brother in Albany! But he's fine, too. He texted us when all was over, so we know he's okay. Still praying for the rest of those mentioned-- this storm did a fair amount of damage, and proved deadly enough. . .
