Well, I bit my lip and prayed and ........................................FINALLY called the donkey rescue and talked to K, the director. :shakinghead: As anticipated, she wasn't very happy to hear she's getting Mz MM back again. We'd heard from one of her volunteers that we know, that she was taking a trip up here to our neck of the woods for delivery of another donkey. So....while I've had no interest yet in anyone else taking her, I had to 'catch this ride'. We are a LONG way from the rescue.

It wasn't til the end of the conversation, where I'd tried to tell K that this was only because we had so MANY issues come up, that I began to :sad-smiley-012: It was only then that I think K believed me when I said I reallllllllllly don't want to do this. I can let go of Roan easier than that rascally donkey who  me. :sad-smiley-012:

I still think it's what we're meant to do, considering ALL the issues of Roan not giving me a therapeutic ride anymore and the shocking cost of hay in our region and the absolute horror I feel when the weather forecast says "SNOW".

I know ....I just can't.....do....this....alllll.....any....more.... :sad-smiley-012: But it's so hard! I've never given up a rescue animal in my life. I've taken them all to the end. Even this part-time dratted/part-time great BigDog. [ who woke me, once again, after merely 10 min. of needed sleep this afternoon <_< ]

Pray that I get the Brand Inspection done quickly cuz K certainly doesn't want to come all this way twice. But I completely forgot you need that to move equines in CO. ...I'm not functioning on all cylinders here. :shakinghead: Might happen this Friday.

MtRider [....I know...I know...I know....I KNOW....but, it's so hard! Being older and poorer stinks. Poor MzMM ]

Oh sweety, that must be so hard on you. Really my heart goes out to you.
The thought of giving up a beloved animal eventhough you know you cannot go on anymore...
Big hugs

She looked at the wolf with a sweet smile . The wolf asked what was in her basket. `Food for Grandmother`she said..
She then opened her basket and took out a sawn off shotgun.
A few days later she walked through the woods in her new wolfskin furcoat...

Lesson learned, so not mess with girls who are brave enough to go into the woods on their own.

OK, so what are the chances that down the road things get better and you can re-rescue her back?

I'm new so I don't know all your background here but wanted to say I'm sorry you had to return him to rescue. I know it had to hurt. I love donkeys and bless you for taking in those who need the help!

We've rescued dachshunds so I can understand to a point. In fact about 3 weeks ago we had to put to sleep my sweet Peanut who was a puppy mill rescue and it's been hard for me since. (he had heart and kidney disease, heart was enlarged and couldn't breathe, was the right thing to do but hurt like hell)

Big hugs to you!!!

I'm so sorry you have to give up Miz MM! Knowing it's right certainly doesn't make it any easier. She will be familiar with where she is going though. I hate having to make "necessary' decisions!

I know it's hard for you to do but it is the right thing. Miz MM found a great home with you and there is no reason to think she won't find another great home again! Maybe even one with kids to give her a run for her money and keep her busy.

I know it still stinks though, Hon. :hug3:

Thanks, y'all. I'm rather trying to avoid thinking about it. I forgot I have to have the 'Brand Inpection' done before one can move equines in the state of CO. [even tho there isn't usually a literal brand, the guy writes a description and says that this is a transfer of ownership agreed to by the seller] ....keeping down those horse thieves, I guess. More likely there'd be cattle rustling in this economy. Lots of folks giving horses away.

But with snow blanketing most of our state today, I'm not sure K will be driving all the way up here with the trailer on roads that might still be nasty on Friday. Mebbe that will give more time for the Brand Inspector to call me back and come here for paperwork. Supposed to have the farrier tomorrow...also mebbe a cancel? Think we'll warm up and melt the white stuff again but it will be a mess for a few days.

MzMM is running about in the snow in her cute blue snowsuit....er, insulated equine coat. :P She ripped it up good on barbwire when she first arrived 2 yrs ago. When I repaired it, I stuck one of my too-small-4-me wool sweaters in there for extra insulation. I see I really should sew up a couple more tears in it. <_< Mebbe.

I melted the icycles off of her eye ridge this morning and....did some melting myself. She's such an ornery, spoiled brat but with so much personality that you can't help but fall for her. And then there is the fact that she  me. ....aCK...CHANGE subject...move on to the next thread.....

A thought out of the blue. Instead of the organisation taking back the donkey, how about they donate food or money for food for the donkey? That way their total budget stays the same but they have less work.
Donkey happy, Mt happy, rescue people happy.

I did consider that too, Christy. But cost of feeding is just one of the problems. The care of them this winter is another problem. We've only snowed twice and it's really killing me this year. My folks and I have had a long discussion about moving out of this snowbound area. But being particularly and dangerously heat sensitive too.... Also, if I get rid of horse, donkey needs companion or she'll ...find her own amusements.

Brand inspector finally called back and will be here tomorrow. Due to the snow, I don't know if K will drive up her tomorrow or wait. But, at least my part is done.

Thanks for listening..

Is the rescue taking the horse as well?

Hoping you are doing ok Mt Rider . What happened with the brand inspection if she was able to make it?
It's not easy doing all this I know. I hope the mule ends up with a really great owner too.
We have a horse rescue farm about 4 miles from me. I would love to help them (voluntarily) just with ground work, but as ill as i got this year it was pure hell trying to walk that far one way when I had to, plus another half mile cause its down by the VA clinic.

I miss having the horses I had years ago in the desert but unless its a well trained mule or horse , with the difficulties you have its not going to be able to be trusted. Right now Im working on a very gentle rehab and stuff but I would never be able to handle a really obstinate horse or mule either at this point and I needed it.

I was wondering if you could get a cart for goats and train some goats to pull it. Would they be able to provide a ride for you that way? I know its not the same but the point is getting you from point A to Point B in case of emergency. Besides, you do have one vehicle and hubby uses it mostly right since he goes out to work? Well if we don't have an emp that vehicle may be sufficient, although at this point I absolutely will keep that in mind because we are far too vulnerable.
And believe me I would love to be able to saddle one of those horses if I knew one was a good , decently trained horse and I would head elsewhere on it. Did I need it,lol. But they would have to offer it, if they knew me and knew i had that far to go because I can't pay for it. Especially if I knew I had to go to TX from here. its a little over 2100 miles to my sons neighborhood. But they have their heads in the sand and certainly we have no plans for that anyway. So I can get around here on foot if I have to.
But I really am not able to deal with a crowhopping bucking green or barn sour horse at this point. ( My doctor would probably give the gimlet eye to me were I to suggest trying to do any work at all with horses, lol. At this point. )
So, I will content myself with the little things and get them in order and try and stock up on food and certain clothing or get the patterns and if it requires a more special material and notions , then will get that and make the stuff and go for walks and work on flexibility and gradual strengthening, and if I can get another place, single floor house with a yard where i can grow a garden, thats the next step if I can get into something like that. In time if I can get 8 miles of hill and valley walking in ( small mountain ridges here and do my exercises and such weights as I can manage I will be better off and it won't be so hard. )
I was sitting here happy tonight because my brain was doing well enough to remember to count four stitches and switch stitch routine for a basketweave wash cloth. I got two inches done already tonight and its little stuff. Ive got tasks for tomorrow but its late and quiet so knitting is nice to do at this time or before I sleep. So my concentration is better , actually far better just to be able to do that much. Other things are coming along too and my ability to deal with more people in person is better too although I know I have alot of stuff to do thats red tape and negotiating but am lining that up and also have to sort of wait on some stuff because the medical insurance is changing over to stuff Im not sure of. Heck , its actually involving some of the national health care stuff already and because I am also a veteran , there are individual things for me other than some of the other peers I have here, and I know the VAMC out of Albany NY is absolutely atrocious and Im tired of running into people that don't give a darn about their jobs here and being professional enough to get things done. I sure hope I dont have to just use the VA and I need dental so badly. They wont give me dental I dont think and i need it now but as of NOV 1 things change. Or within a few weeks. I dont know if I will be able to but its so bad I should have already gotten things done , but because of road problems and other budget cuts.... I just wasnt sure as well as I have not been even strong enough to waste time on a bus all day because that is what it takes, I was too sick to risk it because of the bloodsugar symptoms as they have been and already having been really sick . So my mha folks , the ICM person will probably be bringing me to the appts so I dont have to use the bus because it is too long a trip for me to risk, all mostly in the boonies here. I just have to tell them what I need help with so I have a list. Its really bothersome to be stuck having to get so much help. Its going to require alot of oral surgery. I hope it isnt worse than that but I feel like its hard enough to obligate to a dentist that would start fitting me in. So I am in the process of lining up everything but we got this change that no one who was supposed to in our county sent out notifications about we figured out , in the first place. ( they are another story ). I hate having to ask for help in the first place so its not fun. Ends up one of the main factors in the dental problems is that the diabetes really messed with it along with a medication I was on for something else for 10 yrs that creates all sorts of problems with health, and theres a heck of a civil suit against it now. If I could make it to court Id get in on it. lol.
So, I am doing what I can, step by step and hope like heck this roof holds long enough so I can save enough money and definitely find a better place to live that would be far more suitable. Simply enough rest on a good schedule, enough of a variety of food to do me some good and help balance the blood sugar and try not to get overwhelmed. Try to do things little by little and coordinate the bigger stuff as we go. But I have to admit if people dont pull their weight in their positions or the idjit who came in my window and took my coffee from my kitchen tries anything else again and I catch em.... I will bring the hammer down because I am trying my very best here and being square and honest with them. So all these little things will add up, if I dont end up outside .... real soon. I am always honest with people anyway ,
For this , I think my son would help. If I let him know he would figure out something. The problem is people no longer are honest and don't give me proper information and let there be a no answer if they cant do it in the first place. Or they are just incompetent and Im pretty fed up with that.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

Brand inspector found his way to my boonies by GPS. ...not sure if I like that idea of being found...

Anyway, that's done. Tomorrow I'm off on an excursion with my folks and DH has called in a sick day from his nite work. He's snoring now...HAS to rest that knee. Leg is shiny with swelling and he can't get his normal shoes on. :tapfoot: Doctors! Never follow their own advice. But he's staying home to rest. :cheer: He might not go in tomorrow nite either and rest until Tuesday. Likely what he needs but if he'll do it...

It's really been a poopy week - with cancel many things due to the snow and mess. Nite time lows around zzzzzzzero for past two nites. Just a lot of junk this week...along with my sad event with donkey.

Sunday will be first the farrier, postponed from Thurs. due to weather. Mz MM will go to the rescue with a new manicure :nail: ...er, pedicure.

THEN K will arrive to take her away..... :yar: I wish they could take the horse too. But they are a donkey rescue and MzMM just has weird taste in friends.

I'm not planning on thinking about this tomorrow. I need a good day.

Nite all
