Sometimes it is the little things that make you smarter.................................

Like I have known this for years but just the other day someone asked how I knew what was an herb and what was a spice? Thought you just used one or the other when talking about them?

Do you know the difference between herbs and spices?

MOST herbs are leaves and MOST spices are seeds!
Some can even grow on the same plant-
like coriander and cilantro! Funny that I have to plant coriander seeds to get cilantro for cooking?

We had this problem in the greenhouse business; People would ask if we planned on planting cilantro seed this year?

What to tell them? No, we are not but we plan to plant coriander seeds. Oh, I was hoping to get some cilantro from you?

I understand about the coriander and cilantro as I recently read up on it and purchased both for some recipes. I'm not sure if I have actually sat down and thought about the difference between herbs and spices but thats a good point to bring up! "Food" for thought.
