Has anyone started cranberry plants from the seeds in store bought cranberries? I cut my leftovers and stuck them in the dehydrator and wondered if the seeds on my cutting board are worth saving.

I also saw on instructables.com that you can grow onions from just the root part cut off when you are using them. I was thinking I might try this as well.

Sounds like you can't grow them from seed.

Cranberries are not really grown from seed, but you can buy cuttings or seedlings to start your berry field. The plants will start to produce fruit at around 3 years of age. So a year-old cutting will take some time to get started, whereas a 3-year old seedling will give you fruit almost immediately.

I want to know how you would flood your garden to harvest the berries? :sHa_sarcasticlol:

Lori made home-made cranberry sauce for the first time this year and loved to hear them pop when heated up!

I learned a lot from the website above that I quoted, Michael. It was interesting.

Contrary to popular understanding, cranberries aren’t actually grown in flooded bogs or marshes. Cranberry fields are flooded to make harvesting easier (the berries float) but that is not how they grow all season long. And this is a method used for commercial growers, not your average home gardener.

AGAIN for YOU!
I was making a JOKE!
I know how it is grown , just flooding for the harvest and people at home who only have a few plants ( I knew one) do it by hand or use that specail basket/rake.

Had to read that prolly 3 times to be sure which end of the onion to stick in the ground. Glad to know it's not the translation of language :grinning-smiley-044:
She looked at the wolf with a sweet smile . The wolf asked what was in her basket. `Food for Grandmother`she said..
She then opened her basket and took out a sawn off shotgun.
A few days later she walked through the woods in her new wolfskin furcoat...

Lesson learned, so not mess with girls who are brave enough to go into the woods on their own.

Seriously, Michael, I hadn't known much about how they're grown. Maybe being "out east" it's more common knowledge. Not here in the Midwest! I was glad to learn about it. ;)

Yeah, Christy, that onion thread is just downright funny! :24: ..

AND that is why I don't answer any posts you put out there!
If I do you just right in and say something about it.

YOU would think by putting ":sHa_sarcasticlol: " at the end of the line it WOULD let you know it was a JOKE!

**Cat puts a friendly arm around Michael's shoulder...**

I got it the first time - you were teasing/joking. ;)

But there are lots of people who might really wonder about it, because all they know and see (on the juice commercials) are the flooded bogs. So I tried to let *those people who might be curious* know that the website I posted addresses that concern. Not you... you obviously already knew.

**Cat hands Michael another slice of pumpkin pie with whipped topping**
