Local store has Prego spaghetti sauce on sale 2/$3, limit of two per visit. So I picked two up to rotate into my stock.

When I pulled out one of the front ones for supper tonight (baked shells in meat sauce with bread sticks), I did a double-take. Side by side, the older one is heavier. Checked the label, and it's 2 ounces less than the older jar.

I had also bought more dehydrated hash browns from Sam's--same price as before 4 months ago. Today I was putting them in mylar bags and did not get as many bags out of the last two. I checked and they had 4 ozs. less in each of them. I felt cheated. This is happening more and more.

I wonder how many people never think about how much another rise in gasoline prices affects their food prices? Gasoline in farming makes animal feed more expensive, makes vegetable cultivation more expensive, makes harvest and transportation and finished-product shipping more expensive... :(

Underwear. Both men's and women's. Not that they've shrunk size-wise, but the material is much thinner than it used to be (wears out quicker).

You are right about that, and the elastic does not last long either.

Add Girl Scout cookies to the list. Not only did the price go up, but when I opened the thin mints earlier, there was about 2" of head room in the box.

Cost of fuel = higher cost of goods. :shakinghead:

This past year, I got two skirts. Both had a single straight stitch seams. No zigzag to prevent fraying. One skirt after a single wash had to be re-sewn. I go to the mall with MIL and can not believe the quality of clothing. It seems half of what is on the shelves, I would have given to goodwill as almost worn out. DH & I were talking yesterday about the thinness of socks and undies.

Had to restock some Worcester sauce, the new bottle contains 1/2 as much as the old one and cost the same. :animal0017:

I think I will check for my undies pattern and be sure I have one. Then, stock some cotton knits and elastic.

just bought some italian dressing, the smallest bottle, was the lowest price. it will maybe do about 4 salads or maybe 6 if I stretch it? The regular size bottles of basic brands was almost 4$ per bottle. this bottle I bought today was a dollar. a dollar seems more like a dime now, ya think?

Good idea. I've noticed the elastic pulls away from the where it is stitched to the leg opening, a lot these days.

I get upset when they twist into odd leg shapes after washing. LilDD has a few Hanes brand with one big leg, one smaller, and it irritates me to buy a (supposedly) good brand and they're cheaply made. :banghead:

Another gripe for me about undies is the tags they sew into them. No longer nylon or silky, more like some tough paper or something that won't tear off and itches me.

I have noticed that Hanes is going to tags that are just printed on the inside of undies and tees. Much more comfortable. I know some other brands do the same because I have some tank tops that have the same thing.

I've never sewn...what's the elastic like you'd buy to make your own?

Besides the material getting thinner, I'm also having problems with the elastic in the leg openings in Hanes underwear. It doesn't even seem to be elastic (if that makes sense) anymore, but more like rubber-band material. Seriously, I wore a newer pair just a few times and now the little bit of material that didn't even completely cover the elastic in the leg openings is fully visible and looks just like a rubber-band you'd buy in the stationary aisle.

DH wears Hanes and has been complaining that not only are they much thinner, but there is less material in the fly-area.

This is a company I've liked for years.

http://www.homesew.c...c016e7baf28fb52

Scroll down on this page, and you'll find "Rainbow Edge Elastic" which is kind of like what Hanes uses on the top edges of their girls' underwear, and a bit further down, "Underwear Elastic"... plain white.

If you want to make underwear like the companies do, this is it.

Otherwise any small elastic can be used, but you make a casing out of the fabric and pull the elastic through it... like a drawstring bag top.

Add raisins to the list of shrinking products. I try to keep plenty of those little boxes in the fruit bowl to encourage healthy snacking. I bought more today and when I unwrapped the first six pack I couldn't believe how much skinnier the boxes were! They were the same heighth (to appear to be the same amount) but the width was nearly half as much! There was one regular size box left in the bowl and when I compared it to the new ones I couldn't believe the difference. And the new ones cost more too! Sheesh! <_<

Why not buy a bulk bag of raisins that are cheaper by the pound and put in little snack baggies or containers ?

that is what I will be doing. I don't use alot of raisins but I like having them available and usually just buy the type in the generic jar, but vaccuum sealing them in small bags would be useful and help them last for my own usage. Good idea!

otherwise they get really stiff and hard before I even use the generic jar up! ( noticed it took far more digging them out the other day when I did put some to use recently, lol!)
