Because I had a big tp stockpile I just recently had to buy some for the first time in about 2 years. When putting it on the roller I noticed it is definitely not as wide as the old roll was. Not only did the price go up, but the square footage went down!

Many products including foodstuffs have had that happen. Everyone is cutting back. Because of middle east stuff with Iran probably very likely to get active, the ones who control gas and prices or are affected by serious conflict that would disrupt things that are transported ( petroleum) from the ME, prices and such will probably get higher again. When that kettle starts to rapidly "boil". Media is already warning, along with our govt , warning that we will have 5 $ gal gas by summer. So.. I am trying to readjust my thinking from day to day and week to week again, to do better and even though I may end up with less, if I am very careful and that takes retraining the brain more and emotions, to adjust to that degree... I might succeed well enough to get through even harder times coming up.
It is requiring constant adaptation to go on right now to ride this with some grace.

I have to stock up on it too again.

If that center gets much bigger I'll be able to start wearing it for a bracelet.

The Mars bars and Snickers announced they will stop producing candy with a caloric value of over 250 calories. In short, the large bars will disappear.
Bet you a shiny new nickel once people get used to not being able to compare the prices will go up unnoticed. Cos the larger ones are gone! What a clever ruse this one.

How about the Hershey Kisses? Now they are adding air bubbles. Less product, same price. Don't ya just love paying for air?

On the bright side, if you save those cardboard centers for the garden (protect new plants from cutworms), the plant has that much more room within the roll.

A while back my husband noticed the same thing- and with the bulk buys at Costco the brand names (and even the store brand) have taken to putting fewer rolls per package in. DH is very analytical and very frugal. We stood there gazing back and forth between brand name on "sale" vs. the store brand. Different number of rolls, and different square footage for each roll. And we HATE falling into the "shortchange the package to fleece the customer" trap.

So DH said "May I borrow your smartphone?" and asked me to start reading off the prices and square footage for the two packages- and DH concluded that one was cheaper by a little bit. Further up the aisle I saw a very pregnant lady with I presume her mother comparing other items on the shelf behind us. She noticed my DH punching away on the smartphone and asked, "Would you mind telling me what you came up with?" So we were able to be of small help to another lady who needed to watch her pennies too.

Around here most stores have labels that also have the 'price per pound' or of 'each' in a little orange square off to the side of the price label. We use that a lot!

Lori also carries a small calculator with her whenever we go shopping and we use it!
IF you watch the boxes or cans of things they have been putting in just a bit less every few months so nobody will see that you are getting less for a bit more money each time.
what used to be a 14 oz. can is now 12 oz. can - Same size can but way down on the can below all the 'pretty pictures and words' is how much is in it.
a oz. here and a oz. there adds up quickly.

i just heard on the news last night that for 'health reasons' the king size snickers bars will be eliminated, and a smaller bar, not to go over 150 calories will be sold instead. I laughed myself silly....for HEALTH REASONS? My foot. It is for sneaking in those price raises easier! The guy who dreamed up that press release is one heck of a spin doctor and needs to go to washington dc for a job!

Maybe he can think up some more 'health reasons' for the soon to be proposed 'sugar tax' in regular sodas! Hoooo-boy! The health police are here! Im stockpiling caffeine!

Time to stock up on larger candy bars! They will be great in Christmas stockings and birthday gifts once they are no longer avaialable over the counter. They will be a novelty!

Yeah, right. A normal size Snickers bar is around 280 calories. Why do I know that, you ask? It's just one of those random factoids that stick in your head for no reason at all... I swear! If you want to eliminate the king size stuff to look like you are "doing something" about health issues, ok...but you are taking a BIG chunk out of a normal size bar there...not king size.

And speaking of sodas... How about the new 1 liter bottles of Pepsi and Coke products for $.99? That's what I paid for 2 liter sodas on sale six months ago with the regular price of $1.25. Now 2 liters are $1.89 and don't go on sale anymore.

Also, has anyone noticed their bars of soap getting smaller? When we moved 3 years ago and I packed up my stockpile of Dial soap to take to the new house, I noticed the older bars in the back of the cabinet felt heavier than the newer ones in the front. When I unpacked them I rotated them out and noticed that the older bars were a solid rectangle but the newer bars have a big scoop taken out of the bottom. Same price but about 1/3 less soap! I didn't even notice when the soap got smaller!
