It's cold and snowy outside but the birds are chirping like they feel spring is coming soon. I know I'm ready for it. Although it hasn't been a bad winter for us.

Today it's my turn to make coffee at church. Last night the church had a volunteer appreciation banquet that we went to. Who knew it took so many volunteers to run the church.
They had comedian Jeff Allen speaking at it and today he is going to share his testimony during the service. I'll have to make sure the speaker in the kitchen is on so I can listen to him.

Well off to make coffee. I like to have it done by 8:15 so the other volunteers can have some when they get there.
Have a great day.

Yes, Birds are chipper here too. <- - - - A sure sign Spring is coming.
But they are eating us out of house and home with all the feeders here full of birds. Both the ones that stayed here , the spring birds comiing in and the 'fly bys' that just stop for a bit to eat.

The price of bird seed (sunflowers) has gone up again! and we are getting it wholesale from the guy that grows and bags it for stores!

So I am looking for a small can to put out by the feeders with a sign:
Donations wanted to help pay for feed! :sHa_sarcasticlol:

what birds there are spent a very windy night and are hiding in their nests just now.

maybe they will come out tomorrow and search for food. :happy0203:

The birds here are nesting. They spend countless hours scouring our yard picking up pieces for their nests. The little sparrows get together in a bushy tree and chatter so loudly you can hardly hear a car pass by.

Sorry to hear about the bad weather everywhere. Ours has to be the best, this time of year. Mid to high 70's to low 80's and not a cloud in the sky. It was breezy yesterday and has calmed down today. The garden has to be watered almost every day already. It will not be long before it is too hot and every thing will wither up and die.

I am packing to go to Oregon via LA tomorrow and return on Wednesday. Quick road trip with my little brothers to visit my sister.

I heard a lot of birds chirping yesterday too. I thought to myself, "I haven't heard that for awhile." Also, today I heard some geese go honking over the house for the first time this year.

spring must be close. We have a crazy mocking bird that sits on the roof 0r in the ash tree and warbles his many songs all day and all night..I wonder when he sleeps..When they are courting they fly up aways and then they look like a falling leaf when they come down. I know that mockers are consider pests, but they are a never ending source of entertainment..they will come after you if they have a nest nearby, very mean to cats and dogs.. long time ago when we used to have grapes growing in our yard, sometimes they would ferment and the mockingbirds loved them..but when they ate too many the cats got them. Just thought I would put up my experiences with them..maybe someone else will enjoy them..Katmom

I've never seen a mocking bird that I know of. I'm not sure if we have them in the midwest. If I saw one I probably thought it was a crow.

I did see three robins here today.

I know about mocking birds, they are in southern california where I grew up. but around here we just have mountain jays, regarding that kind of bird.
I remember mocking birds chirping up a sixties song or two because they heard someones radio playing sometimes and would mimic the song. repeatedly, hence them being a noisy neighbor. :grinning-smiley-044:

You probably don't have them in the midwest.(I'm from Ohio a very long time ago but I remember the birds..Especially the bluebirds and cardinals.)Jays are kind of dark on their back, lighter on the breast and have a very long tail. They are as tall as a jay,, but a little slimmer.when they fly their wings show a bar of white. I guess they are a medium size..Around here I mostly see jays, linnets, doves, the kind that are light brown with a white ring around their neck.. a few pigeons, and often we see redtail hawks.and we have a couple smaller hawks we occasionally see..we like them all. lots of finches too, and towhees..katmom

Aren,t they smart? The way they can imitate sounds like that..I've heard that they can imitate cat meows too.My cats were so scared they would hide from the jays..They would dive on the cats, hit them with their feet and scare them silly..katmom
