Once a year the Jr. High youth group at church does a 30 hour famine to raise money to fight world hunger. This year my youngest Dd was old enough to participate. It was fun listening to her older siblings giving her advice how to make it though until the meal they make for them after the 2nd church service.
They do games to demonstrate what famine and wars do to people around the globe. Dd didn't raise as much money as she hoped but she didn't do to bad.

Twice a month the Sr. High has a guy time where they talk about guy things and how to grow into a Godly man.
Today they had a guy time pancake breakfast before church.

60 hungry JR High "famine victims'" and a large group Sr High guys making pancakes all in the same church.

That was mean.:shakinghead:

OOOOOH, yes... mean! :sad-smiley-012:

When my kids did the famine they did work for local charities during the day. Then the ladies of the church prepared a big meal... usually lasagna with all the trimmings.

It's difficult to teach American kids about true famine. They know that in this country some people live their lives on plastic card handouts from the government.

When we were growing up there wasn't a "homeless" problem. I wonder when the "wisdom" of our governmental leaders will go back to the group homes, orphanages, "mental hospitals", and "poor houses" of the past. The ACLU sued them away in the 70s in the name of "personal rights". And look at the mess we have now. :(

Where words and actions disagree, the heart is revealed.

Look how often the unexpected happens... and we still don't expect it.

I heard on one of the news channels a few days ago that 1/2, yes 1/2, of the worlds food is wasted in one way or another. How sad is that!!!

Good going for your kids ladies. Our churches around here never did something like that.

Oh yeah, cooking while they're fasting is going to be rough on those Jr. High kids!
