DH always says that the boat cannot be steered by the rudder unless it is moving (he worked at a marina as a teen), so we have felt led to bid on the house across the street. We've been helping the widow who lived there to liquidate her assets so she can qualify for Medicaid (another story
There is no way to describe the condition of the house, but we're willing to roll up our sleeves and spend our retirement years getting it back into shape. No one knows the place better than we do as we've walked and cleaned every square inch. DH has also fixed many of the HVAC components, lights, pumps, etc. in hopes she would return to her home.
The best part is that the property is one acre and has a cemetery on two sides (quiet neighbors), in the county (small animals allowed) and it's right across the street from us. Too bad we sold all our tools and remodeling equipment 11 years ago when we hit the mission field.
Even if we don't win the bid tomorrow, we'll continue to care for the widow and enjoy her quirky personality for as long as we're here.
