This article emphasizes redundancy in five categories:
five C’s of survival:
■Containers: primarily for water (preferably something you can bring to a boil)
■Cordage: shelter, medical, trapping, fishing and more
■Cutting implement: too many uses to count
■Combustion: fire (food, warmth, light and security)
■Covering: should be waterproof
It goes on to say that a representative of each of these categories should be kept on your person during a BO as well [and maybe EDC : 'every day carry' ]
Just one more way to categorize necessities.
===============
From the same source of articles was advice for including these five items:
1) Energy [as in: caffeine { super-charged drinks or No-Doz pills} cuz sometimes a crisis has to be handled beyond our normal abilities.
[This is VERY important if you are addicted to coffee. Ever been deprived of it for a couple days? Mean headache and sluggish brain. I found a powdered (add water) form of one of the super-caffeine drinks. Tried it once to see how I react, since I DON'T drink coffee. It's now in BOB. If I have to stay charged in a life-threatening crisis, I'll use it. Otherwise...ICK! ]
2) Alcohol ( the drinking type) for cleaning wounds {ouch}, sedation/pain relief, etc
3 ) Weapon - defense[lions and tigers and bears...oh my! ], hunting for food, knife has many uses,
4) Vitamin supplements [weighs less than a pack full of apples and carrots...]
5) Duct tape

NOTE:
--Several of these have multiple uses.
--You would have to be careful [alcohol usage] and legal [weapon] with a couple of these.
What do you think?
